Causes of Human Trafficking • Gender Imbalance • Boys outnumber girls • Needed for brides and females arise • One-Child Policy • Devised to prevent the growing number of Communists throughout China. • Intended to limit the risk of communist threat, instead of limit the number of members within a family. • Families abided by this law to avoid charges
Effects of Human Trafficking • Prostitution • Because of the One Child Policy children are either aborted, abandoned, or sold. • Many babies are sold into prostitution when they get older. • Baby Trafficking • Southwest China there is a street called Chicken Street where it is used to sell babies ranging in different prices. • Young baby girls are sold for $25 and boys could be sold for the double the price. • Birth mothers see this as their lively hood. • Babies are sold to pay off debt.
Why should you care? • Luo Yan Qua tells about how his wife was beaten and how their daughter was feeling her mother’s belly in hopes of becoming a big sister. • Due to the One Child Policy Xiao Ai Ying had to abort her 7 month fetus because she already has a 10 year old daughter.
Why should you care? • A father talks about the quest to find his son and will do anything to get him back. • A mother worries about her child that was taken from her when he was just 5 ½ years old.
