  1. Typhoon Haiyan 3 month Update

  2. On Friday, November 8, 2013, one of the worst typhoons ever slammed into the Philippines.

  3. Thanks to your prayers and support, World Renew was there.

  4. Working with the Christian Reformed Church of the Philippines

  5. World Renew distributed emergency food and other items to 3,973 families in need!

  6. To assist with the project, five International Relief Managers went to the Philippines

  7. They identified three regions on three islands on which World Renew could focus its attention.

  8. This was done in cooperation with other organizations to ensure that there was no duplication.

  9. To date, on Leyte, Panay and Samar islands, World Renew has provided: • Food packages and dishes • Hygiene items and mosquito nets • Medical supplies • Water filtration systems • Stoves, fuel, and cooking supplies • Blankets and sleeping mats • Generators

  10. Trauma counseling is also a critical component of this outreach.

  11. RolindaCadayong lives in Guiuan on Eastern Samar with her husband and four children.

  12. Before Typhoon Haiyan, she was a seamstress and her husband farmed coconuts.

  13. During the storm, the family hid beneath the raised floor of a friend’s house.

  14. “My faith helped me, it helped me get through that time,” she said.

  15. When the storm was over, they had lost everything. “We had no clothes, no house, no food.”

  16. Rolinda lost her sewing equipment and there are no more coconut trees to farm.

  17. World Renew came to the tent community where Rolinda’s family now lives.

  18. This generator from World Renew powers street lights for safety

  19. And enables people to charge cell phones to talk to family.

  20. “I am very thankful for those who came to help our community…”

  21. “Thank you for serving – for giving relief, shelter and food”

  22. World Renew has now entered phase three of its response. This will include: • Continued trauma counseling • Cash for work programs • Fishing boats and nets • Restoring livelihoods • Home reconstruction • In the same target communities.

  23. Please continue to keep World Renew and the people of the Philippines in your prayers

  24. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God…

  25. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
