  12. Coffs Harbour • ILP research opportunities and experience • Previous ILP students have been successful in having papers accepted for presentation at Australasia-wide meetings, and publication in peer-reviewed medical journals. 4 submitted and under review. • Coffs Harbour Health Campus has recently received a $1.5M grant from Health Workforce Australia to promote intra-professional learning. • 2014 projects are again expected to yield peer-reviewed publications; • Professional research culture within the Mid North Coast Cancer Institute: clinicians and academics have extensive publications records and a history of significant grant support. • Highest number of PhD trained clinicans across rural campuses

  13. Coffs Harbour • Examples of ILP Projects for 2014: • - Mid North Coast cancer Institute more than 7 projects on offer focusing on radiation oncology outcomes across breast, brain, prostate, lung. • Simulated learning environment and skills training- effectiveness of Intraprofessional training. Research questions on ‘Simulated Learning environments’ – a state of the art centre with high fidelity simulators and mannequins. • Patient education: mobile Health technology for rural patients. Addresses the adoption of handheld devices for patient education in the rural setting. Project involves the development and validation of an appropriate tool to assess patients’ health education needs

  19. Research opportunities and experience Focus on clinical research, large range of specialists in Wagga who are interested in supervising research projects Previous projects: treatment of morbidly obese by GPs in rural setting (General Practice) stroke thrombolysis (Neurology unit) impact of bariatritic surgery on diet and exercise programs (Bariatric Surgery) Two students last year selected projects in the field of bariatric surgery for their ILP projects. Within a week of starting their projects, they were observing bariatric procedures being performed. Current RSC student is creating a significant cardiology database of the last 1000 patients presented to the cath lab. Multiple research papers anticipated. Data will create opportunities for future ILP projects (data mining) Wagga Wagga
