  1. Warm-up New Seats

  2. Accentuate the Negative Integers and Rational Numbers

  3. Quiz • Reasoning • Number sentence • KFC and decimal division • Number sentence • Absolute value

  4. Honors • Vocab – this was low, people forgot equations, didn’t label for triangles and talk about operations with radicals • Problems Page 1 • No real work for • Show what numbers you are comparing to • Not much maybe mult and div is it needs to simplify more • Yes factor trees Page 2 • Set up Pythagorean theorem for 1-4 • Show all work and steps 6 • Draw picture and show work 76

  5. Honors Page 3 Question 8 use distance formula Type of triangle is based on Pythagorean Theorem = right > acute < obtuse Word problems show work, you can also draw on the picture

  6. Homework Begins on page 86 A 4,5,13,16,48,49 B 7,17,18,49,48,66 IXL F2 and F3

  7. Investigation 4: Properties of Operations Students will demonstrate their understanding of additional properties in relationship to how they are being combined.

  8. 4.1 Order of Operations Students will demonstrate the correct order to solve expressions with multiple operations.

  9. Order of Operations What is the order • Parenthesis • Grouping symbols • Exponent • Radicals also • Multiply or Divide • Left to right what comes first • Add or subtract • Left to right what comes first

  10. Problem 4.1 pg 79 Dealing Up Do A Do C Do D How do parenthesis change a problem

  11. Warm-up

  12. 4.2 The Distributive Property Students will understand the property of distribution when solving expressions and equations.

  13. Distributive Property Take what is outside and multiply to everything inside This will be very important with later math and polynomials Used with terms like expanded and factored form Expanded – sum of terms 2x + 4 Factored form – expression as a product of a common factor and the sum of the others 2(x + 2) Think of the perimeter formulas for rectangles Can you do this backwards and rewrite a problem as distribution

  14. Page 81 How do you find the area of a rectangle? Length Times width Look at the two different ways they found the area of the larger rectangle Find area of two smaller ones and add them together Find total side lengths and then multiply

  15. Problem 4.2 pg 82 Do B Do C

  16. Warm-up Some review ideas for the test 1. True Genius had a score of -200 points. They answered three 50 point questions incorrectly. Then they answer two 100 points correctly. Write a number sentence and determine how many points they now have. 2. Graph the following inequality Think of this as an equation to rewrite the fact family and then graph 3. On your last 3 quizzes you scored 16, 18, 12, what is your average score?

  17. Homework Homework due Thursday • Questions 4 through 7 write out the problem and show some work • Question 12 doesn’t need work but you do need to explain why you stated T or F • Questions 13 and 14 Write original problem then apply the distributive property • Question 45 write the problem and add the ( ), you may highlight the ( ) to indicate the ones you added

  18. Homework Honors This is due by the end of class, I am hoping to give time to work on this Page 1 Q1 only answer needed Q2 What numbers are you comparing to and your approximation Q3 Not much work but sum you need to make sure are simplified all the way, can you take the square root of some of the numbers Q4 There should be work to support your answer in simplest form, L method or factor tree work, then write final answer

  19. Page 2-4 The rest deals with Pythagorean Theorem First 4 problems – set up Pythagorean theorem, are all the triangles right triangles, answers can stay as a square root Question 6 – you only need to pick 2, show how you calculate 3rd side, answer can stay as a radical, make sure you label Question 7 – draw picture, set up equation, answer can stay as a radical, make sure you label Question 8 – distance formula is what is expected, answer can stay as a radical, no label Type of triangle – this is based on Pythagorean theorem and if it is =,>,< to help determine if it is right, acute or obtuse Word problems show set up of equation(s), label answer and make sure you answer the final question Answers will be posted by end of today

  20. 4.3 What operations are needed Students will create mathematical equations from word problems. What information in a problem is useful to help you decide which operation to use to solve the problem?

  21. Problem 4.3 pg84 all about application Do A Do B Do D What words mean Addition Subtraction Multiplication Division Exponent Grouping

  22. Test • Review has been online • Thursday we will do IXL to help review some basic topics before test • We will also discuss review if there are questions • Use this time to work on Homework
