Accessibility & Access to Jobs • Employment is the single most effective means of tackling poverty and economic exclusion. • Accessibility to key services & opportunities, including jobs and training, is vital to the functioning of sustainable communities of all sizes. • RES: • Productivity • Sustainability • Equality
All Change • Shrinking budgets. • Climate Change. • Digital Britain.
Impact of Climate Change on the policy agenda(DaSTS: challenging the way we approach Transport ) • Priority to 2014: • making better use of the existing transport network. • targeted programme of improvements to improve capacity, reliability and safety in the most congested areas. • Post 2014 represents a fundamental change: • Reviewing the evidence and understanding the challenge; • Identifying a wide range of interventions to mitigate the challenge; • Comparing options, and identifying possible packages; • Appraising the most promising options and packages to arrive at the preferred solution.
Understanding emda’s Transport role • Inputting into Regional Transport Strategy – mini review • Joint working with partners on Regional Funding Allocation & DaSTS • Commissioning Research, for example: • Three Cities Studies • Ecotec Transport Interchanges • Railfreight & Waterways Studies • CO2 Demonstrator Projects • New Rail Stations at Corby & East Midlands Parkway • High Speed Rail
Reflections… • Economic development and carbon reduction? • Digital Britain and travel?
