France Timeline • 1814: Bourbon restoration (Louis XVIII r. 1814-24) • 1830: Rev. overthrows Charles X (r. 1824-30) and installs Louis Philippe • 1848: Rev. overthrows Louis Philippe and elects Louis Napoleon (2nd Republic, 1848-52) • 1848-1852: Louis Napoleon = president • 1852-1871: Louis Napoleon = Emperor Napoleon III
Debate Prep Directions • Read p. 750-752 (“Napoleon III in France”) • Make a T-chart and list all of Napoleon’s policies and actions under “conservative” or “liberal.” If a policy doesn’t fit under either category, make your own category. Include dates as well.
Debate Instructions • Select 4 speakers • Each speaker gets max. 2 minutes • Speakers can use notes • “Open forum” = very loose, can introduce new args. and rebut args. at any time
Write a Thesis & Outline Evaluate the nature of the rule of Napoleon III. • 2 or 3 organizational points, but they must be inclusive of all his policies (i.e. don’t do 2 just to be lazy, but do 2 if that makes the most organizational sense) • basic outline w/ paragraph topics and bullet-pointed data
