Application software that helps people use their computers to perform their work Commercial Software involves the investment of a lot of money, large computer companies such as: Microsoft, Apple, Corel, Adobe, Lotus, and IBM Custom Software does exactly what the user wants because it’s tailored to the user’s exact specifications (very expensive) Shareware you can download it over the internet after it expires you must pay Freeware is a free program open to the public Horizontal application software is designed to be used for a wide variety of purposes such as: An accounting firm Vertical applications software is used for a specific purposes Students attendance grades and transcripts

General Productivity Programs • A wide variety of fields and careers need general productivity programs to write documents, manage finances and keep track of inventory… etc. • Common general productivity programs, data base management programs presentations graphics programs, and personal informaton management programs

  7. GRAPHICS PROGRAMS Two very different types of programs can be used to produce illustrations. a. Microsoft PowerPoint and work b. Paint programs and draw programs c. Office xl and publisher d. Word perfect office and star office

Graphics Programs • Paint programs provide tools with which you can “paint” each individual dot, or pixel, on computer screen • Draw programs store the lines and shapes of and image of mathematical formulas instead of a collection of dots. • Other graphics software exists for more specialized purposes such as photo-editing programs… etc.
