President Activity:
Presidents/Leaders are not expected to govern their countries alone Answer
Read Aloud: • Presidents must understand all position responsibilities in their country and be ready to perform every position, except Finance Minister. For instance, if the customs agent for Russia is on break, the President might have to inspect and stamp visitors passports until the Customs Agent returns. Presidents should also help visitors as needed or, if there are many tourists in their country, Presidents may need to assist country citizens. President Activity
Read Aloud/Discuss: • Some times President’s need to resolve conflicts with citizens. For instance, what should the President do if someone is not doing his or her job, or is out of the country visiting friends when he/she is on break? President Activity
You are discouraged from deporting a citizen. Instead, Presidents should speak to the citizen and try to resolve the problem. Answer
Presidents will act as members of the International Peacekeeping Force on a rotating schedule during Towne operation. Presidents will see a “PK” on the International Towne Travel Schedule posted in each country which indicates the specific time they need to officially act as International Peacekeepers. • As a member of the Peacekeeping Force, you will enforce the International Towne laws that are in effect in International Towne. • You will have International Peacekeeper Citation Forms to fill out during your rotation on patrol. • The International Peacekeeping Force will present International law violators to the International Peacekeeping Tribunal for resolution. • Presidents will report to the International Tribunal located in the Netherlands when it is their scheduled official duty time. President Activity:
Each President should now get their Country Folder. • First read silently your list of position responsibilities • Read the Country Meeting Agenda, you will use this as a guide in conducting a meeting with country citizens later today • Preview additional forms in the Country Folder. (During your country meeting, you will delegate these forms to other citizens who will complete and return them to the folder. Teachers will collect the Country Folders with the completed Forms and bring them to International Towne.) President Activity
How can sales be “drummed up” if products or services are not selling in your country? President Activity:
Recommended prices are listed on the Projected Balance of Payments form in the Country Folder. If you sell all products at those prices, the country will have a positive balance of payments • If your country lowers prices of your products or services, the revenue may not be enough to end with a positive balance of payments. • You should calculate how much you will make at a different price before making any changes. (you can only charge prices in the correct denomination of currency for each region) Answer
Presidents Role in the Opening Ceremony: • When the music sounds, Presidents need to line up their country’s delegation—President leads carrying the country’s flag, followed by the Customs Agent carrying the countries flame, followed by the Financial Minister carrying the countries green Trade Form and the countries Export Card, followed by the remaining citizens. • When the International Town Director calls out the name of his/her country, that President steps to the front and presents his/her country’s flag by placing it in the round dais provided. • Next, he/she will provide a specific piece of information about his/her country that the International Towne Director has requested during opening remarks. The country’s specific information may be, among other things, the literacy rate, the country’s per capita income, or the way the country prefers to do business. (Students will have previously studied the fact and will have access to information during the country prep time at International Towne) • The President will then rejoin his/her country’s delegation. President Activity:
Role Play: • Here is a situation in which the President needs to use good leadership skills… • The Finance Minister is not happy with his position and has decided to go on a break early. Meanwhile, expenditures are not being paid and citizens who are the Artisans do not have enough to do. • Have another student play the President who needs to solve the problem. • Other students should evaluate how they handled the situation President Activity
Congratulations on being selected as President/Leaders! • Remember you cannot do everything yourself! • Respect your fellow citizens and create a team environment so that your country will be productive. • Your first opportunity to create a solid working team is during the Country Meetings President Activity
Learning Target: • I will be able to perform my position assignment at International Towne • Success Criteria • Students will be able to… • Describe position responsibilities • Complete the withdrawal portion only of the Transfer of Funds Form-International Trade • Complete the Currency Withdrawal Form--Salaries Finance Minister Training
Review Finance Minister position responsibilities (Appendix C) Finance Minister Training
Currency Exchange Flow Chart for Countries • Distribute the Financial Minister packets by Country • Finance Ministers will complete ONLY TWO of the transfer of funds at school and finish the remainder at International Towne Finance Minister Training
Find the Balance of Payments Form in your packet. • In the upper right hand corner you should find the name of your country and the bank account number you will use on all transfer of funds and deposit slips. This number is extremely important. • At School, Finance Ministers will complete the Currency Withdrawal Form-Salaries and • Transfer of Funds Form-International Trade form, the withdrawal portion only (top half of the sheet). Finance Minister Training
Focus on the Projected Balance of Payments Form. • This form provides an estimate of revenue and expenditures. • Finance Ministers will complete this form during your day at International Towne, not during this training. • I just want you to look it over so you are prepared. Finance Minister Training
Important points to remember… • When you arrive at International Towne, the Panama Freight Forwarders will ship each country’s products and when the products arrive in your country, the Finance Minister will count the products and complete the projected Balance of Payments Form by noting the actual number of items received in the column labeled “Actual Quantity” • Once you have inserted the actual number, Finance Ministers will be able to compute the actual projected revenue. • Finance Ministers will use the equation found on the Projected Balance of Payments Form to compute the amount and determine the number of salary packets each country will need for its citizens. All amounts are listed in the specific country’s currency. Finance Minister Training
There are different sections of the Balance of Payments Form. • The first box is the Previous Balance of Payments Amount. This number may depend on the country’s productivity from the day before. • When you arrive at International Towne, you will be advised of this number. Finance Minister Training
Next, Gross Expenditures (GE) section. • All expenditures are located here. • You will need to complete transfer of funds forms as part of your responsibility as Finance Ministers • To begin the process, Finance Ministers will complete the Currency Withdrawal Form-Salaries. In order to calculate the amount of currency requested and to know the number of salary packets requested, to do this use the equation found on either the Balance of Payments Form or the Projected Balance of Payments Form. • For Example: the Projected Balance of Payments Form for China has the equation: Salaries (3x80) + (___x70)=___. The Balance of Payments Form for China shows this equations: Salaries (3x80) + (___x70)=___. • As you calculate your answers, you need to finish the salary form and write the amount of currency on the Balance of Payments Form. Example: Let’s assume there are two manufacturers in addition to the Chinese President, Customs Agent, and Finance Minister. You would complete the line on the Transfer of Funds Form-Salaries as follows: Number of Salary Envelops Requested 3 x 80 + (2 x 70)=380. Remember order of operations. (PEMDAS) Finance Minister Training
Be sure that your Currency Withdrawal Form-Salaries is completed prior to arriving at International Towne. • Finance Ministers will hand carry this form to Singapore as directed during Towne set-up to claim salary packets for their citizens. • Finance Ministers will distribute salary packets prior to opening ceremony. The salary Form has instructions that allow the Finance Minister to check off as they complete their work Finance Minister Training

Get a copy of the correct Country Export Card. The cards will actually be 8 ½ by 11 at International Towne. • Bring your Transfer of Funds Form with you and form a half circle in the front of the room. • I will call out each country and you will loudly and clearly state your country’s trading partner and the item your country exports (listed on the green export card). • For example: Ghana exports coco to India. The Ghana Finance Minister will walk over to Indian Finance Minister and exchange their Country Export Card for India’s Transfer of Funds Form-International Trade. The Indian Finance Minister will then announce their country’s export and deliver the Country Export Card in exchange for payment (Transfer of Funds Form-International Trade) Repeat this process as needed. Finance Ministers will complete the rest of their expenditure forms during the morning at International Towne. • In the afternoon at International Towne, Finance Ministers will submit currency deposits from the sale of souvenirs and business norm activities. Customs Agent Training
Each country will have a special “stamp” that the Customs Agent will find at the Customs Agent booth in each country. Customs Agents will use the “stamp” to signify that they have inspected Passports and that the visitor have said the appropriate greetings. Passports have a box for each country that Customs Agents will “stamp.” You should only stamp a passport once. • For instance, when a visitor enters the country, the Customs Agent should ask to see his or her Passport. • If it has not been stamped, the Customs Agent should ask the visitor to say the country’s greeting and then “stamp” the Passport. • If they have already stamped the Passport, they should just welcome the visitor and encourage him or her to shop or participate in the country’s business norms activity. Customs Agent Training
Turn to the International Greetings and Thank You’s Phonetics Pronunciations page in your student workbook (page 34). • Stand and demonstrate your countries Greeting and Thank You. • If visitors do not know the greeting, it is YOUR job to teach them. You can also demonstrate your country’s custom for visitors. • You should also ask visitors to point out the country’s location on the map near the Custom Agents stand. Customs Agent Training
