  1. Task 1 - Music Videos The reason music videos are made can be split into 5 different sections, Promotional, Extension of income, Extension of outlets, Links to films or TV programs, Producers Strategies. In this task I will go through each one and use examples to help explain them.

  2. Promotional Is used to promote the band, artist or song. Slipknot would be a good example of this, due to them always wearing masks in their music videos and because of this everyone recognizes their image as these scary mask wearers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fVE8kSM43I Susan Boyle would actually be a good one because she has no image to promote because people don’t like her form her image just for her music and therefore she need a good music video to promote her and her songs.

  3. Extension of Income So they can make more money from where the song/video might be playing which could be places like waiting rooms, airports and shopping centres.   4. Extension of Outlets This is done so they can show their music/video in more places, for example music channels, direct DVD’s, websites and downloads. Every artist will now do this on YouTube using VEVO which is a part of YouTube purposely set apart for music videos, Examples such as blink-182VEVO and LadyGagaVEVO. Channel like Kerrang! play music videos usually decided by a guest or the audience of the show and show various artists, songs and music videos all from the “rock” category of music however can only be shown if there is a music video to that song.

  5. Links to Films or TV programs This benefits both the film and the artist, band or song due to them both getting the publicity. Examples like the new song/video Adele has done for the new Bond film Skyfall and Diamonds are forever by Shirley Bassey also done for a Bond film, Diamonds are forever. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeumyOzKqgI This gave both the songs and artists great publicity and worked for both the Bond films to because they needed a theme song to.

  6. Linkin Park has their song and music video ‘New Divide’ which was used as the theme song for the first Transformers film and their actually video contains clips from the actual film itself along with clips of the band playing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysSxxIqKNN0 Another one would be ‘My Heart Will Go On’ which has parts of the film ‘Titanic’ in its music video and was the films theme song

  7. Producer Strategies For example, major labels, independent companies and artists produced through YouTube and X-factor. Blink-182 explain at the start of their video that they were given a cheque by the record label (which at the time would have been a major label do to them being so popular at the time) and the cashed it and filmed themselves spending and giving the money away. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7hhDINyBP0 Angles and Airwaves are a band that has never been on a label and yet still bring out albums and music videos through their own independent money.
