  3. Results • Winner: Van Buren • No unity in Whig party – 3 different candidates

  5. !!!OMG!!! • Jackson rigged nominating convention (overstepping his power) • Forces electoral college to support Van Buren • Democrats didn’t support VB as much as Jackson

  6. Jackson’s Lasting Impact • Jackson wanted Van Buren • “Third term without a third term” • Follow in footsteps of Jackson • Close popular vote & electoral vote • Country split, end result still went with Jackson’s views
