Expressions of quantity in the Amanuban dialect of UabMeto YakobMetboki English Study Program of ArthaWacana Christian University (UKAW) – Kupang (jacobmetboki@ymail.com) Abstract In this paper, I describe the expressions of quantity in the Amanuban dialect of UabMeto, a dialect spoken in the South Central Timor Regency of East Nusa Tenggara province - Indonesia. The paper contains a sort of interesting expressions of quantity displayed on pragmatics examples of and their contextual uses. It is expected that the result provide one’s reference on the mutuality of the dialect and its functions by the people of Amanuban. Understanding the expressions of quantity in the Amanuban dialect is a complex task; however, semantically one may find their practical uses in the variety of discourses. The expressions stand for cardinal and ordinal numerals, fractions, addition, etc. Interestingly, some of them are adjectives but they have worth of values and function as classifiers. Those classifiers always stand after the nouns followed by cardinal number. For example: Laukhaufutumese(a bunch of cassava) Sisinoniniim(five strings of meat) Puahki’ nua(two bunches of areca nut) Oelanannua(two times taking water), etc. It is obligatory to use these classifiers in order that the nouns and their entities become clearer. In certain occasions, people address the classifiers under pragmatic objectives. In summary, the expressions of quantity in the Amanuban dialect work across mathematical orders leads to semantics categorization due the contextual orders.
