The ESPON 2013 Programme Role in Structural Funds 2007-2013: • Support EU Cohesion Policy development with evidence on European territorial structures, trends, perspectives and policy impacts based on comparable information on regions and cities revealing territorial capital and potentials. Budget 2007-13: • 47 mill Euro (ERDF 34 mill. Euro plus 13 mill. Euro from 31 countries) Programme Priorities: • P 1: Applied Research • P 2: Targeted Analyses based on stakeholder interest • P 3: Scientific Platform with Tools • P 4: Capitalisation

For European policy development: • Support to Intelligent, Sustainable and Inclusive Growth • Tailor SF investments to regional diversity • Foster Territorial Cohesion • Support territorial dimension in Sector Policies • Contribute to European competitiveness in the World For regions and cities and larger territories: • Understand unique capital and unlocked potentials • Define the most promising projects • Reveal possible synergies through cooperation • Help spending EU funds more targeted and efficient For the private sector: • Reveal market opportunities • Support location of FDI

Implementation Overview by beginning of 2011 Programme Implementation progress: • Applied Research projects: • 17 projects ongoing, final or just starting • 8 additional Applied Research projects remain • Targeted Analysis (based on stakeholder demand): • 18 ongoing or closing • 4-5 additional Targeted Analyses coming up • Scientific Platform and Tools: • 4 larger projects ongoing/final • 4 additional projects envisaged • Transnational Networking Activities: • 5 projects ongoing • 2-3 additional projects foreseen
