Plan! BEFORE you make fieldtrips: • What type of content do you want students to learn? • Factual/descriptive? • Process/conceptual? • Prediction? • Evaluation? • What skills do you want students to learn? • Identifying relevant information (critical thinking) • Data documentation • Data representation & making “good” observations • Communication of data • Making claims that are supported by data (critical thinking) • Metacognitive reflection (process and rationale) • What connections do you want them to make?
How can you make virtual field trips? • Insert each picture into it’s own Power Point slide. • Insert a navigation button to copy/paste on top of each photo (so students can return to “big picture” to get oriented. • Insert desired navigation objects and labels.
How can you make virtual field trips? • Hyperlink navigation objects. • Select object with pointer. • Right click and select hyperlink option.
How can you make virtual field trips? • Select “Place in the document” • Select slide you want to open when students click on it..
How can you make virtual field trips? • Repeat hyperlink process for your navigation items (TIP: Make your “big picture” hyperlink and then copy/paste so you only have to make hyperlink once. • Save as PDF file. • Open PDF file and check links/navigation. • Send/post PDF for students to access.
