  2. ”Lake and Reservoir Restoration Academy” • European Lake and Reservoir Restoration Academy Rejected scopes: • European watercourse restoration Academy (Lakes+rivers) • European Lake and Reservoir Management Academy

Could be: Between Watershed Academy (US EPA), Shallow Lakes Network (NL), North American Lake Management Society NALMS • Could include:-exchange and application of good practices, e.g. those indentified in Lakepromo, -cumulating and organising information, -open Internet forum, -modules for basic studies, lifelong learning and capacity building • Should include: A modern ITC environment (GIS + communication by Internet > meetings), -communication by native language for stakeholders • Could not be: A scientific academy (not in Interreg) or a beer academy

  4. Main building blocks • Communication platform • European lake restoration archive • Capacity building in European lake restoration: - learning by doing- benchmark learning- teching in connection with practical work

  5. Communication platform • High quality ITC platform to improve availability of data and information • GIS + water quality, biodiversity, management case or problem, … • Services to authorities and stakeholders • Linking teaching in universities and high schools to real life management cases (planning, monitoring, sampling, …)

  6. European lake restoration archive • If needed in addition to WISE(also small lakes, also lookin back) • Basic information of lakes in the website • A cumulative databank • Detailed information of -past and current pressures, -operations/measures carried out & effort/intensity, -costs paid, -benefits & impacts achieved • Basis for comparative analysis

  7. Model for transfer of experience • Problem + diagnostics and knowledge + action  no problem • Smaller ecological footprint:Meetings ↓Videomeeting, webcast, interactive webpages ↑ • ITC based cross examination of cases and their problems • Linking of teaching and practical lake management ??

  8. Objectives to go • Communication platform ITC facilities • European Lake Restoration Archive • Support to many directives (-Wethab?)WFD + e.g. habitat directiveswimming water directivebird directive • Support achieving the good ecological status with better recreation, fishing, nature conservation and more environmental education Outputs- Archive - information- Website - communication- Expert material for stakeholders, authoties and teaching
