6th Grade Language Arts Miss Morgan
Little About Me… • I am a native of Gilmer County. • I have two cats someone else named Fo “Shizzle” and “Holla” Back. • My favorite food is fried squash. • I am exceptionally squeamish.
Summer Fun… • I worked all summer, but for fun, I spent time with my nephew and brand new niece. Their names are Austin and Ella.
Mr. Forney • 22 years married • From Savannah, GA • Two children, 20 and 18 • Hobbies are all sports, camping, fishing, hiking, travel, and spending • Time with my family. • 5. 15th year at FCMS
1St Period: Before 8:00 am • Get your breakfast before you come down the hallway. • Come into the classroom, sit in your seat, and eat your breakfast. • When finished- throw away your trash in the trash cans in the hallway- not in the classroom. • Go to your locker and get your necessary materials for 1st period. • Vote for your lunch choice. • Have pencils sharpened, agendas out, and journals ready by 8:00 am. ***Roaming and socializing in the hallways is not allowed***
When you arrive… • You have 3-4 minutes to “take care of business”: • Use the restroom • Sharpen Pencils • Get necessary materials out on your desk • If I shut the door and you are not in your seats and ready, then there will be consequences for not following directions.
End of class clean-up… • Pick up any scrap pieces of paper that are 3 feet around your desk, and throw them away. • Return any other necessary materials into their appropriate places. • Straighten desks before leaving the classroom.
3rd Period…Going to lunch… • Stay in your seats until it is time to line up to go to lunch. • Straighten your desks, then quietly exit the classroom. • Form a line along the right side of the hallway and stop at the bathrooms until I reach the front of the line. • We will walk to the lunchroom in an orderly fashion- no running, yelling, or horseplay.
5th Period…Going to Connections… • You will go to your lockers between 5th and 6th period. Get everything you need before you will go home because you will NOT be returning to the 6th grade hall.
Fire Drills… • We have fire drills once a month. • If a fire drill is conducted, quietly stand, push in your chairs, and line up in the hallway along the lockers. • We will quietly follow Mrs. Nave’s class outside. • Once outside- you must stand in a line, and I will call roll to make sure everyone is present. • When we come back inside, find your seats and get back to work.
Necessary Materials • Composition Book and/or Notebook • Agenda • Any Homework/Books • Pencils/Pens
Warm-Ups • At the beginning of each class-you will complete a warm-up and record your answers in the appropriate composition book/section of notebook. • Warm-ups will mostly involve grammar and writing questions. • You will receive a daily grade each week for your 5 warm-ups. Each warm-up counts as 20 points. • If you are absent, it is your responsibility to record your absence in your composition book.
In Class… • Much of this class involves interacting with peers, and I expect courtesy and constructive criticism. • Take notes in class to apply later to your writing.
Focus/Grading… • Writing/Grammar is the focus of this class. • There will be 2-3 daily grades per week. • Test grades will come from papers, spelling tests, and notebook checks.
Assignments… • If you finish before class is over, you may sit silently and read a book, write, or work on Study Island. • If you do not finish before class is over, the assignment needs to be completed at home/by the due date!
Turning in Assignments… • Turn in your assignments in the designated tray/area. • If your first and last name is not on your assignment I will count off 5 points.
Absences… • If you are absent, check the “In Case You Were Out” folder for assignments/work. You are responsible for completing and submitting missed assignments. You have two class days from the day you return to submit one day’s assignment. • For example: If you miss Monday’s class, Monday’s work is due by Wednesday.
Extras… • Rules see poster and website • Rewards • Occasionally I will reward you with rebel passes, homework passes, +5 point, and +10 point cards.
