What is Differentiation? All students have different readiness levels, interests, and learning styles. Differentiation is an approach that enables all students to be challenged within the classroom setting, while meeting their individual needs.
What does this mean for my child? • Differentiation instruction provides your child with an education that is learner-centered. No two students learn the same. Differentiation is a method that modifies curriculum to meet a wide range of learner needs within one classroom.
Content, Process & Product Students in the differentiation process will experience varying contents, processes, and products to obtain the same learning objectives. Content – concepts students learn in a given lesson. Process – the tools and learning experiences provided to the students. Product – the end result of the lesson.
4 Characteristics of a Differentiated Classroom 1. Instruction is concept focused and principle driven with opportunity to explore meaningful ideas through various approaches and avenues. 2. On-going assessment of student readiness and growth is built into the curriculum.
4 Characteristics of a Differentiated Classroom 3. Various forms of flexible grouping is used in the classroom. • Students are active explorers with the teacher providing guided practice and scaffolding.

How will this help my child? • Differentiation enables students to think critically, independently, and to be challenged in the classroom environment. All students learn differently; therefore, it is our goal to provide a learning experience for your child that is learner-centered.
