  3. Oval Mapping Purpose • Mapping can be conducted rather quickly • Mapping is an efficient tool for brainstorming • Mapping transitions easily to relationships

Oval Mapping Benefits • Mapping may be used to develop a more integrated picture of our stakeholders • Promotes understanding of what is necessary –base for continued discussion, communication • Manages the complexity and inclusion of many people’s views, teams • Structures relationships, this typically helps people figure out what they can do – actions – strategies - purpose

Oval Mapping Directions Who are the organizations that are important to an advisory group in your county? • Start by brainstorming-(one each on an oval). • Community organizations that make decisions that could effect your local extension office • Community organizations that utilize Extension services • Community organizations that we do not traditionally work with, but provide community resources (think outside the box) • Pencil the links between ovals that reflect influences

Purpose of Community Partner Advisory Groups • Identify issues and concerns that Extension can and should address • Identify other community organization/agencies to collaborate with in addressing specific issues • Identify potential resources and community strengths and provide support for acquiring the resources necessary to carry out program initiatives • Provide advice on program effectiveness and impact • Communicate to others the impact and relevance of Extension’s educational programs • Create opportunities for interaction with local, state and national policymakers

Oval Mapping Directions Who are the individual that are important to an advisory group in your county? • Start by brainstorming-(one each on an oval). • Community organizations that make decisions that could effect your local extension office • Community organizations that utilize Extension services • Community organizations that we do not traditionally work with, but provide community resources (outside the box) • Pencil the links between ovals that reflect influence • Brainstorm individuals of influence from these groups • Pencil the links between individuals (different colors-influence, communication, projects, goals, etc) • Place small dots (colored marks) to represent diversity, community, program area, sex, age, etc. • Utilize a straw poll to narrow down choices.

Community Partnership Advisory Group Development • Authorize • Extension Education Committee creates the Community Partnership Advisory Group in accordance with county policy • Defines expectations, specifically communication patterns, and products (outputs). • Recruit • Extension Education Committee and staff identify and invite/orient members • Convene • Orient (new) group members • Group determines leadership roles • Orient • Extension faculty/staff • Extension Education Committee • County Board Chair/ Executive/ Administrator • Advise and Assist • Advisory group members provide advisory input to the Extension Education Committee on regular basis • Assist Extension in fulfilling their mission
