  8. Backstory • In the present day, Scientist Edward Mauzkawitz is experimenting with a human transformation device. Mauzkawitz’s assistant changes a setting as a april fools practical joke. The transformation device backfires when tested and Mauzkawitz is transformed into a mouse. Since the assistant has gone home, Mauzkawitz must find a way to transform back into a human, whilst surviving the night against various lab creatures and negotiating obstacles • (Honey I shrunk the kids, The Witches)

  9. Game play & elements • Weapons – The player needs to jump on an enemy multiple times in order to defeat it. The player presses ‘B’ to jump and positions himself above the enemy in order to land on it. When the player successfully lands on the target they bounce back up into the air and the enemy is stunned for 2 seconds. In that time, the player must quickly press the corresponding button that spontaneously appears on the screen. If the player presses the correct button, they land on the target again, if they do not succeed, they are stunned for 2 seconds, which gives the enemy time to recover. It takes more jumps to defeat a higher level enemy. Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong

Contd. • Power ups – Blue Cheese, once picked up, makes you bigger (Gives you permanently more health), regenerates lost health, and makes you immune to enemies for a limited time. • Yellow Cheese works like bullets, the mouse can throw yellow cheese at enemies which travels in a straight line and can defeat them with one hit. Cheese occasionally drops from defeated enemies and can be found in various parts of a level. Super Mushrooms, The Road to El Dorado sacks

  11. Physics & a.i. • Game physics – The mouse can jump and run faster than enemies can but only by 20%. Physics are real world (eg. Gravity) • A.I – Travel on a set path and go back and forth (like a patrol). Rats and hamsters have a line of sight, and when they see the player, they begin to progress towards them by climbing over obstacles. No more than 2 enemies may chase at a time. Sonic The Hedgehog (Physics), Donkey Kong (enemy tracking\path)

  13. Game flow • Game Flow – The player generally progresses from the top left side of the screen to the bottom right corner of the screen where the entrance to the next level is. Throughout the level the player is confronted with obstacles that they must navigate around and must face enemies along the way by jumping on them. Occasionally when an enemy is defeated they will drop yellow or blue cheese, these cheeses can also be found in various parts of the level.

  17. Level 1 • Mauzkawitz starts out in the test room and must find a way out of the sealed environment. Half-Life, 2nd level

  18. Level 2 • He gets out and advances toward the storage room, where he finds the missing part. However he does not have opposable thumbs and cannot replace the part.

  19. Level 3 • He starts to become hungry and recalls his assistant leaving a chunk of cheese in the break room and begins to head to the break room and realises that the security door is blocking his path and must use the air vents to reach the location of the cheese, the air vents are the home of your first enemy encounter a group of rats.

  20. Level 4 • After arriving at the break room you see a rat stealing your precious cheese and you must chase him down and collect your cheese.

  21. Level 5 (Major Boss) • You go through a hole in the wall which leads to the rats den, where Mauzkawitz encounters lots of rats he must fight. He continues until he meets the Rats boss who is guarding a giant cheese pile and Mauzawitz must fight him. He succeeds and takes the cheese which makes him grow much larger.

  22. Level 6 (final boss) • Mauzawitz hears cat noises and realises that his pet cat mittens has appeared. Mauzkawitz must use his wits to defeat the cat as he is much smaller and less powerful. Mauzkawitz lures the cat onto mousetraps which immobilise it, effectively defeating it. (throughout the battle, you are able to see the assistant walking in though a window on the background of the level.

  23. Endgame • the assistant finds and recognises you, and helps you to return to human form. (cutscene in the game engine)
