  5. Benefits • Hot-desking • Remote working and remote support • Front/back office communications • Support Collaborative working • Web Conferencing • Enterprise alternative to Skype • No infrastructure or software cost

  6. Key Principles • Optional to staff • Students don’t have access at present • Those who opt in control their visibility • Supported locally

  7. Lync Pilots to date: • ECLS • Estates • ISS Around 1/3 have opted in, feedback from those that have used Lync has been positive.

  8. ESS “How has Lync Helped you in your Job” • “far easier to communicate” • contact workmates when working away from the office (working from home) • See who is available … • Ask quick questions… • Avoid disturbing others…..

  9. What have we found out? • Easy for users to get going • Largest issue was signing in (nfb99@newcastle.ac.uk) • Few people used help (either built in / or ISS web pages) • Show and tell helped introduce feature beyond IM i.e. • Group conversations • Relationships
