AS Early Modern History Unit 1 Britain, 1603 -42 This focuses on the reigns of James I and Charles I the Early Stuart Kings. In particular you will study why the relationship between the Kings and Parliament deteriorated to the outbreak of the English Civil War in 1642

AS Early Modern History Unit 2 Peter the Great of Russia, 1682 -1725 What were the problems facing Russia during the reign of Peter the Great ? What were his motives & achievements and the consequences for Russia.
AS Modern History Unit 1 Tsarist Russia, 1855 - 1917 You will study the last three Tsars, Alexander II, Alexander III and Nicholas II. How did they react to the changes taking place in Russia ? Why was the monarchy overthrown by Revolutions in 1917 ?
AS Modern History Unit 2 Mussolini’s Italy, 1922-45 How and why did the Fascists come to power in Italy after the First World War ? What were their ideas and how did they affect the government, economy, society and relations with other countries ?
A2 Early Modern History British Monarchy, 1642-89 Why was Charles I executed in 1649 ? How successful was Cromwell as Lord Protector, 1653-58 ? Why was the Stuart monarchy restored ? What were the reasons for the ‘Glorious revolution’ 1688 ?
A2 Modern History British State and People , 1865-1915 Focuses on the growth of democratic government in Britain and the impact on political parties and their policies. Examines the roles of key political figures and ideas such as liberalism, conservatism, socialism and nationalism.

A2 Early Modern & Modern History Unit 4 in both courses is Coursework. A personal investigation based on supervised research of 4000 words.
You can choose your own topic of investigation.It must not be a topic you have already studied at AS or A2.It must be set within the context of at least 100 years.
