  1. Science Tracking on the SOFIA Program Eric Becklin and Alfred Krabbe SSSC 29 Sept 2009

  2. Science Output Tracking on the SOFIA Program • We have not been particularly systematic on our Science Output tracking on SOFIA • No coordination with the Germans • Some systematic tracking within NASA or USRA but dropped in the last few years • No tracking within the extended SOFIA team including the instrument teams • We would like to change the situation both within US and Germany • On the US side we plan to have our EPO program track our Science Output (they have done this is the past, so only need an update) • DSI will be doing the same.

  3. Motivation • Provide complete listings for funding agencies • Be prepared for external evaluations and reviews • Internal: Find certain material, we have been working on • Show the public • what we are doing • how SOFIA is doing • To be used for internal strategic discussions • To be used for statistics and quality control • Annual reports • Government reports • Public relations • other

  4. What we are thinking • All SOFIA related papers would be tracked and logged • Covering: Astronomy, Engineering Science, & Didactics/Education Science • Refereed Papers such as Horn and Becklin, (2000) PASP Vol 113, p997 • Written Papers that are Published in a book: Mainzer et al.(2003) SPIE Vol 4857 • Not Abstracts only • All PhD Students with a major SOFIA connection. Mainzer (2003) UCLA; Harms (2009) Stuttgart. Maybe also Masters and Diploma Theses? • Other Suggestions are welcome

  5. What we need from you • When asked by Dana and Dörte for your input please respond • As quickly as possible • All requested information needs to be in the correct format. • Please take some effort to make sure it is correct. It is important for SOFIA • As we get SOFIA data, it will be critical that we have this very important data base, so keep it updated and transmitted to the program.
