  2. Why was CIMC needed? Key Problems: • Site information contained in 4+ applications that were not linked to each other or EPA-wide web applications • Each application provided a unique programmatic view of sites • Many site pages were not oriented to the public • Didn’t define terms or acronyms • Didn’t necessarily address the status of cleanups • Information not provided in “lay” terms • Information was easy to misinterpret • Windows to My Environment (WME) was difficult to use to see cleanup sites and was restricted to ZIP Code geographic areas • Needed to provide easier access to site-specific information across EPA's cleanup programs

  3. What is the CIMC Solution • CIMC is currently • An extension of Envirofacts • …Provides the general public (and realtors, bankers, insurers) • …With quick, seamless, and easy access to relevant, understandablesite-specific information without having to know the cleanup programs first

  4. Current CIMC Capabilities Current Version 5 capabilities at www.epa.gov/cimc: • Map or list based on program and geographic search criteria • New improved mapping interface – uses “Bing” • List It function is Section 508 compatible (maps are not) • Drill down to reports related to that site (CPAD, ACRES and RCRAInfo data from Envirofacts, ECHO, FRS) • Advanced search capability (in addition to the basic search) to search for cleanups based on ICs, ECs, EIs, as available, in Superfund, RCRA and Brownfields programs • Extensive Brownfields Grants searchability – to replace Brownfields Enviromapper • Includes ARRA sites for 2 of OSWER’s 3 ARRA programs • Can display nearby water monitoring stations and link to water data • Geographic choices include point and radius, state, tribal area, watershed, region, etc.

Current Plans • CIMC II enhancements we are working on: • Change underlying technology to Oracle Business Intelligence (OBI) for easier, less expensive maintenance (like NY ARRA site) • Add Epaosc.net emergency responses that are already public • Add larger emergency incidents as they occur • Add Impaired Waters from OW • Add Urban Rivers • Add ability to search by Superfund ICs • Better cross-linkages with MyEnvironment

  6. Possible Areas for Expansion • Add additional cleanup sites and profiles (from states and other sources, tribal LUST sites, TRI releases to land, rest of the RCRA sites, etc.) • Report out summary information – need suggestions • Introduce role-based security to enable an internal version with access to more sensitive data (via portal and/or CDX)
