  1. Cleanups in My Community April 14, 2010 For EPA Web Workgroup Lisa Jenkins, OSWER/OPM/IMDQS

  2. Why was CIMC needed? Key Problems: • Site information contained in 4+ applications that were not linked to each other or EPA-wide web applications • Each application provided a unique programmatic view of sites • Many site pages were not oriented to the public • Didn’t define terms or acronyms • Didn’t necessarily address the status of cleanups • Information not provided in “lay” terms • Information was easy to misinterpret • Windows to My Environment (WME) was difficult to use to see cleanup sites and was restricted to ZIP Code geographic areas • Needed to provide easier access to site-specific information across EPA's cleanup programs

  3. What is the CIMC Solution • CIMC is currently • An extension of Envirofacts • …Provides the general public (and realtors, bankers, insurers) • …With quick, seamless, and easy access to relevant, understandablesite-specific information without having to know the cleanup programs first

  4. Current CIMC Capabilities Current Version 5 capabilities at www.epa.gov/cimc: • Map or list based on program and geographic search criteria • New improved mapping interface – uses “Bing” • List It function is Section 508 compatible (maps are not) • Drill down to reports related to that site (CPAD, ACRES and RCRAInfo data from Envirofacts, ECHO, FRS) • Advanced search capability (in addition to the basic search) to search for cleanups based on ICs, ECs, EIs, as available, in Superfund, RCRA and Brownfields programs • Extensive Brownfields Grants searchability – to replace Brownfields Enviromapper • Includes ARRA sites for 2 of OSWER’s 3 ARRA programs • Can display nearby water monitoring stations and link to water data • Geographic choices include point and radius, state, tribal area, watershed, region, etc.

  5. Current Plans • CIMC II enhancements we are working on: • Change underlying technology to Oracle Business Intelligence (OBI) for easier, less expensive maintenance (like NY ARRA site) • Add Epaosc.net emergency responses that are already public • Add larger emergency incidents as they occur • Add Impaired Waters from OW • Add Urban Rivers • Add ability to search by Superfund ICs • Better cross-linkages with MyEnvironment

  6. Possible Areas for Expansion • Add additional cleanup sites and profiles (from states and other sources, tribal LUST sites, TRI releases to land, rest of the RCRA sites, etc.) • Report out summary information – need suggestions • Introduce role-based security to enable an internal version with access to more sensitive data (via portal and/or CDX)

  7. Demo slide – CIMC home • Here is where the demo slides for CIMC begin. The presentation slides have been removed to reduce the file size of this presentation. Instead, I’ve included an explanation of what is being shown… • www.epa.gov/cimc - home page for CIMC • Shows the many search options

  8. Demo slide – Map ItWhole US • Shows that CIMC can map the whole US, but it is best to do this in “off” hours. The next CIMC will address performance on this larger map. It is a common problem. • www.epa.gov/cimc - home page for CIMC

  9. Put a more local map – of North Carolina?

  10. Demo slide – Profile/Report listing page • Shows all the reports for a particular site/facility/property and links to each. • www.epa.gov/cimc - home page for CIMC

  11. Demo slide – Profile page for a single site/facility/property • Shows the “lay-friendly” pages we have created to explain the data associated with a particular site – intermingled with the data. • www.epa.gov/cimc - home page for CIMC

  12. Demo slide – Map showing water monitoring sites v cleanups • Shows that CIMC can show water monitoring sites relative to cleanup sites and link to data for the water monitoring site. • www.epa.gov/cimc - home page for CIMC

  13. Demo slide – Drill down to OW’s water monitoring data • Shows that CIMC can show water monitoring sites relative to cleanup sites and link to data for the water monitoring site. • www.epa.gov/cimc - home page for CIMC

  14. Demo slide – Drill down further to OW’s water monitoring data • Shows that CIMC can show water monitoring sites relative to cleanup sites and link to data for the water monitoring site. • www.epa.gov/cimc - home page for CIMC

  15. Demo slide – Top of a ListIt page • Shows that CIMC can show lists of sites. These include just the cleanups for a chosen geography (rather than just the map extent) and allow you to download the data for other uses. • www.epa.gov/cimc - home page for CIMC

  16. Demo slide – Bottom of a ListIt page • Shows that CIMC can show lists of sites. These include just the cleanups for a chosen geography (rather than just the map extent) and allow you to download the data for other uses. • www.epa.gov/cimc - home page for CIMC

  17. Demo slide – Bottom of a ListIt page for Brownfields - 1 • Shows that CIMC can provide all the public Brownfields data – for download and use with mashups, for analysis, etc. • www.epa.gov/cimc - home page for CIMC

  18. Demo slide – Bottom of a ListIt page for Brownfields - 2 • Shows that CIMC can provide all the public Brownfields data – for download and use with mashups, for analysis, etc. • Shows the additional data categories the user can pull for Brownfields. • www.epa.gov/cimc - home page for CIMC

  19. Demo slide – Bottom of a ListIt page for Brownfields - 3 • Shows that CIMC can provide all the public Brownfields data – for download and use with mashups, for analysis, etc. • Shows the results, and that they can be saved as CSV, XML and XLS. • www.epa.gov/cimc - home page for CIMC

  20. Demo slide – Shows the result for a specific location • Shows that a web owner can link to a map of a specific site location • www.epa.gov/cimc - home page for CIMC

  21. What You (Web Community) Can Do • Link directly to Cleanups in My Community (www.epa.gov/cimc) or the Cleanups Web Site (www.epa.gov/cleanup) • OSWER’s Current AA has asked all Regional Cleanup Programs and OSWER HQ Programs to link to CIMC • Link directly to an interactive map of your cleanup site/facility/property on your regional web page: • http://iaspub.epa.gov/Cleanups/MapItServlet?cmd=mapSite&SiteName=Site+Name&latitude=xx.xxxx&longitude=-xx.xxxx • E.g., http://iaspub.epa.gov/Cleanups/MapItServlet?cmd=mapSite&SiteName=SYNGENTA+CROP+PROTECTION+INC&latitude=36.066973&longitude=-79.910066 • substitute in the name of your site and its lat long

  22. How do I find Cleanups in My Community? • Google “cleanup EPA”, “EPA cleanups” etc. – go to the cleanups web topic and click on the map for finding Cleanups in your Community • Google “Cleanups in My Community” • Go to www.epa.gov/cimc • There’s also a link off the OSWER page…
