Good Behavior • We explain that we expect students to listen during the lesson, participate, and to be respectful to all. This means they must pay attention during the lesson and refrain from talking to others excessively. If a student continually misbehaves, we warn him/her, then we will write up a referral and send the student either to the Vice principal or the Guidance Counselor, depending on the nature of the problem. If the misbehavior persists, we drop the student, and the counselor will find another class or will separate the student from the school.
Regular Attendance • The Basic Language Arts Department policy is: If a student misses 4 consecutive days or a total of 6 days for the semester without contacting the school, or notifying the teacher, the teacher can drop the student from the roster and they may not re-enroll until the next semester.
Progress • Basically, this means that a student has to try and to do all the assignments given, or to complete the class workbook. Usually students do progress, and they see this on their tests. We do not separate students that are slow or struggles. It is the student who attends and does nothing, who has little work to show for the time spent in the class.
Administrator Disciplinary Actions • Referral written by teacher • A.P. receives & reviews referral • A.P. meets with student • A.P. suggests corrections to behavior • A.P. imposes consequences according to school guidelines/procedures • A.P. reports to teacher and counselor action taken • A.P. monitors student’s progress
