The Alamo Battle. February 23 1836. The Alamo was a battle between the United States and Mexico over the state of Texas. In the battle of Alamo in San Antonio there were only 180 American soldiers barricaded inside a nearby mission called Alamo against an army of thousands of Mexican soldiers.

William D. Travis • Was the commander of the Texans • Was only 26 years old at time. • He sent messages through Mexican lines to the Untied States asking for assistance. • William Travis was killed by Mexicans when they entered the fortress there were to many to hold back.
The Battle Of Alamo • After being furious with the loss of San Antonio, Santa Anna marched north on February 1836. • They found a small Texan force Barricaded inside a mission nearby called the Alamo.
Texas Declares Independence • March 2 1836 four days before fall of Alamo • Texas declares independence from Mexico • Declaration stated Santa Anna’s Government violates liberties under Mexican constitution
Sam Houston • Named commander of chief of Texas forces • Came to Texas in 1832 • Raised among Cherokee people • Became soldier, fought along side Andrew Jackson against Creek people
