The area has been inhabited since the Roman times. Busto Arsizio is now a modern industrial and commercial center,  thanks to its strategic location at the center of a very wealthy area, near the Simplon road to France. Cicogna’s Palace The Museum of Palazzo Marliani-Stork was opened to the public in 1990 .The former home of the Earls Marliani, it has served various civil functions since the nineteenth century. The museum hosts a selection of the most significant works of the town heritage, grouped according to thematic, stylistic and chronological sections that make up the museum exhibit. Church of St. Mary The Sanctuary of Santa Maria di Piazza is located in the center of Busto Arsizio, the site of a former church dedicated to Our Lady St. Mary, which in turn had replaced a chapel built at the time of Christianization.The church, prideof Busto Arsizio, wasbuiltbetween 1515 and 1522, by a few talented architects of Bramante’s school. St. John the BaptistThe Basilica of St. John the Baptist is the main church in Busto Arsizio , dedicated to the patron saint of the city. This building stands on the ruins of a Lombard chapel which is about eight feet wide. The oldest part of the bell tower with a square base and exposed bricks, dates back to the period 1400 - 1418.The church is one of the most important works of baroque in the province of Varese . St. AnneThe Church of St. Anne was built in 1959 by the architect  E. Castiglioni.The church was expanded in 1975 and consecrated the following year. Below the church there is a theater-hall, which was refurbished in 1981. VILLA OTTOLINI TOSIVilla Ottolini-Tosi is the most magnificent villa in Busto Arsizio and was owned by Ernesto Ottolini. The villa is a true monument to the economic power of the industrial bourgeoisie of the town of Busto Arsizio.The villa is located on the northern edge of the old town, near the church of San Michele. The building was built in 1902 and acquired by the town of Busto Arsizio in 1969.   18. VILLA OTTOLINI TOVAGLIERI Villa Ottolini-Tovaglieri is one of the great villas in Busto Arsizio and was owned by Enrico Ottolini. The villa is a true monument to the economic power of the industrial bourgeoisie of Busto Arsizio. The villa is located on the northern edge of the old town. TextilemuseumThe cotton mill ”Carlo Ottolini” is one of the first settlements of this type of production founded in Busto Arsizio.The first track of its construction dates back to 1857.On 19th January 1978, the “Bustese” Cotton Mill stopped working because of the backwardness of the production facilities.The "BusteseIndustrieRiunite" took over the mill and they are now headquartered in OlgiateOlona. In 1980 the land on which stands the building of the former cotton mill was bought by the municipality.On 30th January 1997, after years of restoration, the City Council of Busto Arsizio officially opened the Museum. History • The foundations, by the Ottolini family, date back to • 1887-98 • In the 1920s it was bought by Antonio Tognella and Carlo Schapira who changed the structure of the building. • In 1971 they started to move the factory to Valle Olona. • The building was acquired by the town of Busto Arsizio that made several renovations to enlarge and restore the structure of the building and they finished this process in the ‘90s.

  22. Basement • 2. Spinning and preparation - The room shows the process of producing cotton. Some old equipment and machinery used for spinning are displayed. • 3. Weaving and finishing. - A weaving machine and some frames that highlight the evolution of this machine • 4. Safety - There are two pieces of anti-hazardous machinery as well as first-aid equipment shown in this room.

  23. First Floor • 5. Jacquard – a type of manufacturing - This room is dedicated to the evolution of this type of manufacturing, from the ‘80s to the era of the first computers. • 6. Packaging and shipping - This section introduces the process of packaging and shipping. Some displays are dedicated to the most important parts of this business. One display is also dedicated to Enrico dell’Acqua, a pioneer of Busto’s textile industry. • 7. Hands-on experience - In this room you can try out the textile process. In various parts of the room blind people can use Braille maps. • 14.The archives and library - The archives/library, available for study or research, host a lot of books on textiles.

  24. SecondFloor • 8. Dying and printing - This room presents some processes of dying and printing. Other printing machines are shown here. In this section there are also samples to look at and feel. • 9. Embroidery and finished local products - Here you can see women’s clothing and lingerie, bed linen, curtains and tablecloths made by hand . • 10. The business section of the textiles industry - A display shows various objects used in the offices. • 11. New Materials - The ‘New Materials’ room offers a panoramic view of the history and evolution of new materials used in many areas such as: clothing, medicine, civil and militaryprotection, and sports.

  28. A Membershipfor the Museum If we created a membership, people would be given cards with their details and a code which they could use to access the wi-fi connection. They could also receive discounts on events taking place in the museum.

  29. Wi-fi connection Members of the museum would be able to access wi-fi whislt in the museum and the surrounding area, by using a password which is given with their card.

  30. Fan Page on Facebook Joining the fan page people will be able to be updated with events that will be happening in the future at the textile museum.

  31. Podcast We could provide a podcast on the website which can be downloaded by members. This would become an audio guide.

  32. Roomsforevents We could provide rooms which could be used for: • Exhibitions also made by students • Conferences • Book promotions • Releases in particular for the textile industry.

  33. ThemedEvents We will organise themed parties, like a “decade” theme where people wear clothing from that period. This would attract many people from different age groups depending on the theme.

  34. A MusicRepertoire By providing background music it would make it more attractive for visitors and a more enjoyable experience overall. Music could be changed depending on the ages of the visitors and the events.

  35. Children’s arts and crafts area An interactive play area designed for children, here they can weave certain materials so they can create souvenirs

  36. Library Where people can read and research on the history of the museum and the local area.
