Definitions of Detached; In its purest form, detached youth work is a form of street-based youth work provision, which operates without the use of a centre and takes place where young people "are at" both geographically and developmentally . Often confused with outreach work, because of the similar principles i.e. making contact on the streets with those "hard to reach" or "unattached" young people. Detached work is seen as more than trying to encourage young people to utilise existing provision (which is the often used definition of Outreach work) and is used as a method of delivering informal and social education and is concerned with addressing whatever needs are presented to or perceived by the youth worker.

    3. 04 June 2010 Slide 3 Torfaen Youth Service 24/7 Detached Programme. Pilot operated January to March 2010 (See report card for outcomes). Alignment of resources created low cost solution 24/7 programme over the pilot period covered all of the wards in Torfaen some with Sufficient coverage and other with what we term as a drive through coverage. The ward with the sufficient coverage was highlighted with Hotspot areas that came from a wide range of sources i.e. Joint Action Group, Police, Local Residents and Detached Workers knowledge. The report card shows the outcomes of the pilot period Jan to March 2010

PCSOs working alongside detached workers resulted in a low cost solution to detached work. With enhancement of workforce to the 24/7 programme a greater level of shared accountability was achieved. Communities First areas provided with additional support. Currently working with Community to develop provision for a evening coffee bar.

    5. 04 June 2010 Slide 5 Developing the Project April to September 2010 � Mid Term Review carried out Developed a portfolio of supporting information relating to individual projects that support the Detached Programme. e.g. Intergenerational planting, Art project, etc.
