Identify larger issues and list them. Begin brainstorming ideas for potential directions you could take your paper. • Get in groups and discuss and brainstorm and begin drafting potential inquiry questions.
Homework • Review your free write and group activity material and post two potential questions (and the corresponding stories) to BB Forum • Read: Read “Stockings,” “Church,” “The Man I Killed,” “Ambush,” and “Style” (pp. 117-136). • Dobbins’ girlfriends’ stockings serve as a symbol “Stockings.” Compare the discussion of gender roles in this story to “Sweetheart of Song Tra Bong.” Then, identify at least one object in the other stories that functions as a symbol and how that illuminates a larger issue. Discuss in a paragraph with specific quotes and references to the text. Post to BB.
