SixMost common text structures for nonfiction • Description • describes the topic by listing characteristic • Chronology • Presents events in order in which they occurred • Explanation • Provides causes, effects, or reasons for various phenomena and events
Six text structures cont… • Compare/contrast • Compares/contrasts two or more things, people, or ideas • Definition • Defines components of the topic and gives examples • Problem/solution • Identifies a problem and it’s causes and then explains a solution

Bubble Gum take two • Items needed: • Chewed piece of gum • Lined writing paper • Toothpicks • Markers/pencils • Disinfectant wipes • Gallon sized baggie (for transporting masterpiece) • Make something (person, place, thing) with wad of chewed gum • Write response to prompt
