Now to Analogies Analogies show similarities, or things in common, between pairs of words. The relationships between the words in analogies usually fall into different categories.

1. Purpose Purpose - One word in the pair shows the purpose of the other word (scissors : cut)
2. Opposites Opposites - The words are opposites ( light : dark)
3. Part / Whole Part /Whole - One word in the pair is a part; the other word is a whole (leg : body) body leg
4. Action / Object Action / Object - One word in the pair does an action with or to the other word, an object (fly : airplane)
5. Association Association - One word in the pair is what you think of or associate when you see the other (Cow : Milk)
