  31. American History and Cultures • Advanced GPS Equipment purchased for Archaeological instruction and research, e.g., to document the Trail of Tears and conduct additional research at the Center for Archaeological Research

  32. Biotechnology • Bridging the Gap between Biotechnology and Materials Science. Search for Synthetic Nucleic Acid Biochemist initiated in January, ongoing. College to provide instrumentation and facilities renovation.

  33. Environment and Water Resources • Purchase of Real Time PCR Equipment Simultaneously quantifies and amplifies a specific DNA molecule helping determine if E.coli in lakes is coming from animals or humans. Important for water quality efforts.

  34. Entrepreneurship • International Entrepreneurship Review and analysis of research literature to identify International and Intra-national Entrepreneurial Traits necessary for success. Started 7-1-07.

  35. Global Studies with an Emphasis on Asia • Asian Studies Coordinatorhired for Fall 07 to enhance collaboration campus wide, support student and faculty research and travel, and develop on-campus activities. • Taiwan Studiesfunding supports research and an international conference on the Democratization of Taiwan at MSU, Fall 2007.

  36. Health Promotion • Development of Dizziness and Balance Program Equipmentfor diagnosis and treatment of balance system disorders. Goal: Achieve national recognition for quality services, support applications for extramural funding for vestibular rehabilitation and fall risk reduction for the elderly and patients with neurological problems, and provide treatment and training for athletes.

  37. Health Promotion • Research and Training related to Methamphetamine Use, Prevention and Treatment. Senior criminologist hired for Fall 07 with DEA and C&G experience. First grant application focused on Drug Court evaluation already submitted.

  38. Health Promotion • Conflict Management Intervention for At-Risk Adolescents. Interdisciplinary Health and Communications team partnered with community theatre group to develop intervention to be recorded in DVD format. Summer 07 start.

  39. Human Development • Research and Training on Pervasive Development Disorders (PDD). Data collection and clinical assessment of local children to be used in the training of graduate students; resource materials developed for caregivers; and experts provide lectures and consultations on Autism Spectrum Disorders for faculty and students.

  40. Materials Science • X-Ray Diffraction and Analysis Facility Instrumentation to Determine Crystal or Powder Structures at the Chemical Level (Crystals previously had to be sent to MU, out of state or to Europe for analysis). To be installed Fall 07.
