One of three ESF schools to pilot daily Chinese • 2.Designated Chinese classrooms at Rose Street • 4.Year 4-6 students have a 30 or 45 minutes lesson every day • 5.Students are sorted into 3 pathways at • the beginning of the academic year • 6.Assessments are made regularly • 7.Groupings are adjusted accordingly
1) Based on the new ESF Chinese curriculum
2) Use published texts and materials: Pathway 1: Chinese Made Easy for Kids 1 Pathway 2: Chinese Made Easy for kids 2 Pathway 3: 小学华文from Singapore (Other commercially published materials and home-made resources are also used to support the programme)
3) The basic language skills • of listening, speaking, • reading and writing are • taught simultaneously. • 4) Focusing initially on • listening and speaking in • order to build up a good • foundation. • 5) Regular homework is set • to enhance student • learning.
7) ICT is also being integrated with more software & interactive games used in teaching & learning.
Chinese Team & Staff Allocation
Currently there are 5 teachers supported by 5 Mandarin speaking EAs working collaboratively in the Chinese department of the school. • 3 teachers are deployed specifically for the pilot program with an extra one day per week support of another teacher namely: • Ms Clara Pang (彭老师) • - Pathway 1
Ms Ningfang Duan(段老师) • - Pathway 2 • Miss Erica Siu(萧老师) • - Pathway 3
Ms Fanny Chau(周老师)- at Rose Street every Tuesday to provide extra support to the pilot programme and the children of special need. She works at Perth Street for the rest of the week. • Ms Michelle Choo(朱老师)– 2 days per week working at Perth Street.
