Pronoun Review. English Language Arts 6 th Grade. Pronouns and Antecedents. Pronouns are words that take the place of a noun. Antecedents are the words that the pronoun stands for. Ex: Our class decided to do a project we could all do together. ( we stands in place of our class ).

  2. Pronouns and Antecedents • Pronouns are words that take the place of a noun. • Antecedents are the words that the pronoun stands for. • Ex: Our class decided to do a project we could all do together. • (we stands in place of our class)

Personal Pronouns • Used in place of a name of a person or thing • It’s what you think of when you think of a pronoun • Mrs. Costello went to Paul’s house to see Paul’s sister. • I went to his house to see her. I, me, we, us, he, she, it, him, her, you, they, them, mine, yours, his hers, its, ours, theirs

  4. Possessive Pronouns • Shows what or who owns or possesses something • Mine • Yours • Hers, his, its • Our/our • Yours/your • Theirs/their • My • Your

  5. Possessive Pronouns • The red brick house is mine. • Is that yours? • My cookie is bigger than yours.

  6. Indefinite Pronouns • Points out a person, place, idea, or thing, but not a specific one **Think about being in an emergency – no one would ever call an ambulance if you just said SOMEBODY! Or SOMEONE! Or ANYONE! You’re not talking about a specific person.

  8. Reflexive Pronoun • Adds –self or –selves to another pronoun form • Ex: I went to the show by myself. • Ex: He wanted to eat all the cake by himself. Myself, herself, yourself, themselves, ourselves

  9. Interrogative Pronoun • Asks a question. • WHO Who wants to go? • WHOSE Whose gum is this? • WHAT What time will you be home? • WHICH Which one of you wants this?

  10. Demonstrative Pronoun • Points out a specific person, place, idea, or thing. • THIS This is my seat. • THESE Do you want these? • THAT That was super cool. • THOSE I always wanted one of those.
