September 28, 2012 Program Level Outcomes Workshop
ACCJC Rubric for SLO Proficiency • Student learning outcomes and authentic assessmentsare in place for courses, programs, support services, certificates and degrees. • There is widespread institutional dialogue about the results of assessment and identification of gaps. • Decision-making includes dialogue on the results of assessment and is purposefully directed toward aligning institution-wide practices to support and improve student learning.
ACCJC Rubric for SLO Proficiency • Appropriate resources continue to be allocated and fine-tuned. • Comprehensive assessment reports exist and are completed and updated on a regular basis. • Course student learning outcomes are aligned with degree student learning outcomes. • Students demonstrate awareness of goals and purposes of courses and programs in which they are enrolled.
ACCJC Report • ACCJC SLO Implementation Report due March 15, 2013 • 75% of courses have completed one assessment project • 13% have completed more than one assessment • Want to report as close to 100% as possible.
ACCJC Report • 5 MVC programs have no Program Level Outctomes (PLOs) developed • No evidence of PLO/SLO alignment • Indirect assessment has been done for Area of Emphasis and Gen Ed degrees
Timeline • August 2012 - First draft of report written • September 2012 – 51 courses with no assessments completed were identified and instructors contacted • December 21, 2012 – course SLO projects are due • Winter 2013 – report will be completed • March 15, 2013 – report will be submitted
Assessing a Program • Program Level Outcomes (PLOs) are developed by faculty in the program • Student learning is measured through capstone experiences, portfolios, grad or employer surveys, licensure exams • Not a measure of course learning outcomes, but overall attainment of broad learning goals

Questions for Mapping and Alignment • Does every PLO map to at least one SLO from a required course? Do you need to add any required course(s) or modify an existing course to be sure all PLOs are addressed? • Are some PLOs better represented than others in your course SLOs?
Questions for Mapping and Alignment • Is there a capstone-like course that captures multiple PLOs? Are most students in that course pursuing certificates? At what point in the program do students take that course? • Would it be appropriate to use your course assessments for program-level assessment? • Do you need to rewrite your PLOs and/or SLOs?
