  3. IN ORDER TO GRADUATE WITH A RI HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA…

  4. Students must do the following: • Complete minimum of 20 courses – 4 Math, 4 ELA, 3 science and 3 social studies • Meet requirements for 2 Diploma Assessments • Portfolio, Exhibition, and/or Comprehensive Course Assessments • Get a score of 2 on both Reading and Math state assessments • And…

  5. Local Graduation Requirements • …complete additional graduation requirements of your school • Additional coursework • Community service learning • other

  6. Changes also include: • Regents Commendation – if a student meets proficient or better (score of 3 or higher) on the math and ELA state assessments and has successfully completed all graduation requirements

  7. Changes cont. • Certificates • Students can earn credentials or certificates in addition to earning a high school diploma • Certificates may include Work Readiness Credentials, Industry recognized credentials (NATEF, OSHA, etc.) • RIAA students can earn certificates that indicate their readiness for work and independent living after graduation from high school

  8. Supports for Students • Personalization – advisory or other organized structure that provides small groups of students an opportunity to meet regularly with an adult and their peers • Individual Learning Plan– process that allows students to set goals and reflect on attainment of those goals. Documentation of course work and specific interventions and programming that support a student in meeting goals.

  9. Student Supports cont. • Meet Testing Requirement – Do not score a 2 on NECAP/state assessments in Junior year • Develop a progress plan - spells out interventions and supports provided to help you learn what you missed • Retake state test in fall of senior year • Still not at level 2 (or show progress) – use score from approved alternative tests • In a very limited number of cases, students may be eligible for a waiver.
