Parent Night 2011. Ms. Henderson’s Class. Early Morning Care. Do not drop your child off before 7:10. If for some reason they need to be dropped off early, they must pay $3 for early morning care. This includes if they miss the bus and you have to leave for work early.

  1. Parent Night 2011 Ms. Henderson’s Class

  2. Early Morning Care • Do not drop your child off before 7:10. • If for some reason they need to be dropped off early, they must pay $3 for early morning care. • This includes if they miss the bus and you have to leave for work early. • Please walk them to Ms. Baker’s room to sign them in.

  3. Parent/Teacher Conferences • I am always available to discuss your child in person or via telephone. • E-mail is the best way to set up a time and day for the conference. You may also call the school and leave a message. • Things you may need to discuss: • Grades • Behavior • Other special concerns

  4. Room Mom / Parties • Room Moms – Missy Hodges and Joy Lovette • They will contact you when there are special events going on in the classroom to let you know how you can help.

  5. Curriculum • Math • Hands-on AMSTI Math • Science • Hands-on AMSTI Science • Reading • ARI (vocabulary, strategy, skill, fluency, word work) • Skill Marks • Alabama History • Writing/Language Arts • Writing is skill based. • Language will consists of grammar assessments.

  6. BINDERS • Homework pocket – front left pocket, any sheets in here need to be completed and returned the next day • Agenda – see next slide! • Reading Log – Thank you for doing such an excellent job on helping your child complete this each night (15 minutes a night on Mon – Thurs) • Morning Work • Study Guides • Vocab/Word Study Please check behind these sections nightly! • Unfinished Work

ABC Folders • Attendance, Behavior, Curriculum • Blue Progress folders • Come home with child each Tuesday • Left Side will contain: • Class Newsletter • School Newsletter • School Flyers • Right Side will contain: • Yellow ABC card (to be signed and returned) • Graded Papers (discuss with child and return)

Above the Line Behavior • Above the Line • Be respectful Be Safe • Be Responsible Be Cooperative • Be Polite Be a Worker • Above the Line Rewards -Free draw, treasure box, cushion for a day, Yogi at their desk, work from a bean bag, stickers, computer time • Below the Line • Not Listening Being Uncooperative • Not following Directions Name Calling • Not Following Procedures Pushing • Not completing Work Touching Others • Budging in Line Missed HW • Excessive Talking • Misconduct outside Classroom • Fix it Option • Students who choose a Below the Line Behavior may be given a choice by the adult in charge: fix it option and/or consequence. • Excessive Below the Line Consequence: • Sent to office with a “Below the Line” form

  11. Class Discipline Policy • Our Classroom Rules Are: • “Bee” appropriate (in speech and actions) • Respect others’ property • “Bee” a direction follower • Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself • Do unto “otters” as you would have “otters” do unto you

Consequences • 1st violation results in a warning. • 2nd violation results in silent lunch, silent snack or loss of recess to be decided by the teacher. • 3rd violation results in parent notification through a discipline note. • 4th violation results in work time in another classroom. • 5th violation results in an office referral.

Homework Policy • Standard Homework: • Weekly Math Review Test(study each night) • Timed math assessment (every Wednesday) • Weekly word work and vocabulary tests • Reading Log (due every Friday) • Other homework, such as math practice, Alabama History work page, or study guides will be sent home throughout the week. I will notify you of upcoming tests in the newsletter. • Late or missing homework will result in silent lunch or missed recess and a mark on the tracking sheet.

  14. Tests • Math review (10 – 12 problems weekly similar to the daily math review which can be found behind your child’s morning work section • Vocabulary (8 – 10 words which can be found in your child’s weekly newsletter as well as behind their vocab/word study section) • Multiplication Time Test (every Wednesday) – please refer to blue note sent home this past week in your child’s ABC folder

  15. Tests • Word Study (10 words, 8 of which can be found in your child’s weekly newsletter as well ad behind their vocab/word study section. 2 of the words will not be studied, but will be on the test to see if your child can follow the word study pattern) • All other tests will have study guides that can be found behind the study guide section in their binder. Study guides will be handed out at least 3 days before the test if not more.
