FORCE Geomechanics Committee Activity Overview 29 August 2007 Tron G. Kristiansen, Geo & Rock Mechanics Advisor, BP
MESPOSH JIP • Measuring pore pressure directly in shales - join industry project (MESPOSH JIP) • Applications: drilling (casing design, wellbore stabillity, pressure ahead of bit), basin modeling, seismic, 4D seismic • Phase 1 finalized early 2007 on potential permanent installed system and LWD system • Contractors: Golder Associates, NGI and Baker • Sponsors: BP, Chevron, Dong, Hydro, Shell, Statoil, Total • Phase 2 on permanent installed system • Letter of intent deadline 1 September 2007 • Project kick-off within September • Sponsors: tba
Compaction Monitoring Work Meeting • Workmeeting on compaction monitoring technology • Applications: Compaction and subsidence monitoring, well design, reservoir engineering, 4D seismic • Workgroup to meet 11 September at NPD, Stavanger, Norway • Review technology status and plans in industry • Baker, Schlumberger and Halliburton • Will evaluate if a JIP in this area is needed to improve current methods (good data requires monitoring wells – expensive and risk of not getting good quality results)
Well Life and Drilling Access in HP/HT Fields • Workshop planned for 1H2008 at NPD, Stavanger, Norway • Objective: Review experiences from HP/HT operations world wide in order to look into areas for potential new R&D • Some indication of severe challenges in more mature HP/HT provinces than Norway • Applications: Well design, wellbore stabillity, reservoir engineering, 4D seismic
