Total Force Integration • Background: AFLC 2010 • AF/A8 feedback from MAJCOM site visits • Barrier to integration due to lack of knowledge about the different components (Reg AF, ARC and Civilian) in the TF • AF/A9 lessons learned reports cite a need to examine TFI training at Air University to ensure the TFI vision and objectives are communicated • A8XF approach to examine the problem, root cause and possible solutions 18
Total Force Leadership • Background • Lessons Learned Fort Hood: “Preventing Violence/Enhancing Response” – action required by AF/A1 (A8XF partner) • “Finding 74: Air Force leaders lack knowledge about how best to manage Total Force personnel who might pose a threat to themselves or others.” • 74.1 Revise applicable professional military education and professional continuing education programs to include learning outcomes focused on authorities, procedures, and programs that support Total Force teaming and leadership. • 74.2 Revise reference materials for officer, enlisted, and civilian members to clarify authorities, procedures, and programs that support Total Force teaming and leadership.
Total Force Integration Current Status: Red Gap Analysis “Current state” – AU talking papers on TF curriculum PCE programs still under review “Desired state” – Fort Hood 74.1/74.2 Findings Traditional Total Force topics taught in all forms of PME/PCE Learning focused on component and Joint perspectives, general knowledge, roles, policy, etc as opposed to managing an integrated force Topics need updating to reflect TFI focus and Fort Hood requirements 20
