Overview • September 8, 2009-August 31, 2010 • IMLS grant funded via DLDS • Catalog of courses - self-paced • Learner chooses where, when, what, how many • Minimum expectations & CE Credit – yes! • Motivation is key
History • FY2006 – NETg – desktop only; 193 participants • FY2007 – Thompson – added high tech; • FY2008 – SkillSoft – piloted business; shared kickoffs • FY2009 – SkillSoft – added business; each system held their own kickoffs; 882 course completions so far • FY2010 – SkillSoft – all library staff! Learner Expectations • CE Credit based on course duration estimates where 1 hour estimated = 1 hour CE • Minimum Expectations: • Complete 1 course • Print certificates to track CE credit hours

Liaison Expectations (pg 2) • Motivate learners • Run SkillSoft reports • SkillSoft Liaison blog • Statewide emails • Communicate project updates • SkillSoft Liaison blog • Emails
Liaison Expectations (pg 3) • Assist with project evaluation • Learner reaction evaluation is in SkillSoft • Assessments – 80% proves completion but be kind (this is higher than 75% last year) • Skill transfer – how will we do this?
How do we get learning to ‘stick’? Activities contributing to learning effectiveness: Pre-work = 26% Learning event = 24% Follow-up = 50% From American Management Association presentation – Brent Peterson, PhD, Apollo Consulting, 2003
Buzz Words Transfer = Learner uses on the job Blended = Delivery variety Examples: online & classroom, live online & self-paced online, supervisor meetings & self-paced, mentoring & online
Supporting Transfer Supervisor Involvement • Manager Tip Sheet (will send to you) • Invite to kickoff and other meetings • Visit their meetings • Develop web place • Check-in emails, phone calls • Include in evaluation • Supervisor/learner agreement (AACPL) • Other ideas?
Supporting Transfer (pg 2) Business Courses • “Blended” learning • Meeting agendas & Discussion guides provided • Online Supervisors Wiki http://wiki.carr.org – listed on left • Can last year’s participants facilitate some this year? Caroline is trying this.
Supporting Transfer (pg 3) IT Courses • How have you been doing this? Projects? Lab time? Peer training? • Staff share what they learn with each other
Motivation • Best to motivate along the way … throughout project • How will you do this?
SkillSoft • Running reports • Navigation overview • SkillSoft Liaison Blog is on Merlin
How to run reports • Go to Merlin – www.merlincommunity.org • Choose Training > SkillPort Login • Your login will be provided in late August • Choose Admin Tasks • Reports • Run the report, then View the report • Course Activity and Course Completion reports helpful
