PRIDE Academic Re-Teach Students participating in academic re-teach activities will do the following…
STUDENT DIRECTIONS • Step 1: Obtain your grade printout, either by Power School or teacher. • Step 2: Use green highlighter to highlight all of the assignments with a passing grade. • STEP 3: Use the pink highlighter to highlight all of your missing assignments. • Step 4: Use the blue highlighter to highlight all of your failing assignments.
A LITTLE MATH: • What is the ratio of your passing assignments to your failing assignments? • What is your ratio of your missing assignments to your failing assignments? • Create a pie chart showing your number of missing ,failing, and passing assignments. • Can you infer from the data why your grade report demonstrates these overall grades?
Setting and Achieving Goals How to set goals: • First you must define the goal. When you keep doing the same thing the same way, you will always get the same result. So...... • MOTIVATE yourself. Consider the possible blocks and the way you can deal with them to change them. • There is a right way and a wrong way to set goals!
IDEAS FOR SETTING GOALS • DEFINE your goal. What do youwant to achieve? • Outline the steps you will need to achieve it. • Consider possible blocks and waysof dealing with them. • SET DEADLINES.
IN ORDER FOR SOMETHING TO BE A GOAL: • It has to be important to you! • It has to be within your power to make it happen through your own actions. • It has to be something you have a reasonable chance of achieving. • It must be clearly defined and have a specific PLAN OF ACTION.
GOALS: So who cares? • Hopefully you do. • Get your own direction through setting YOUR OWN goals. • Positive, personal focus make your goals easier to accomplish and the other kind of direction (POOR CHOICES..), don't.
DISCUSSION Questions • Do you ever set goals for yourself? • What are some goals you have right now (Short term? Long term?) • AGREE/DISAGREE? It is better to set lower goals than to risk failure by setting higher ones? • What is the difference between a wish and a goal? • How will you decide what your goals are? Why are you here in the PRIDE re-teaching class? • Is it ever ok to take risks? What kinds of risks are ok ? What kind are not?
USE THE PRIDE MATRIX TO HELP YOU DECIDE WHAT YOUR GOALS WILL BE • Choose 2 short term goals you can accomplish this semester. • Use the goal planning worksheets. • Make sure you use a plan, a deadline and why these goals are important to you. • Share and discuss. • What are some rewards that come with success?
