That’s A Wide Range Of Products ! Slide 2 2006 EPCGlobal
Global Industry Participation • JRCCE consists of 16 member companies who represent the nucleus of the Consumer Electronics industry • Their combined operations and sales span the whole globe • In Europe Metro in Germany have already joined and we have commitments from Dixon’s and Comet in the UK. Carrefour in France may join after M & E effort • In North America Best Buy have joined and Wal*Mart have committed to engage soon • We still need more retailer participation but feel that as with AFF, starting the standards development will entice others to join Slide 3 2006 EPCGlobal
Consumer Electronics IAG Scope Slide 4 2006 EPCGlobal
Consumer Electronics IAG Charter • Develop RFID business processes to improve the Consumer Electronics supply chain process in the following areas: • Product content ID for recycling/ environmentally friendly disposal • Product build/assemble and identification accuracy • Improved track and trace capability, even across different companies • Improve material procurement and product lead times • Improve inventory management. • Entitlement validation at the point of providing warranty services • Capture item components during the manufacturing process • Improve returns and reverse logistics processes • Reduce manufacturing process times and errors • Reduce counterfeit levels by improved earlier detection Slide 5 2006 EPCGlobal
Consumer Electronics IAG Charter • Develop RFID business processes to improve the Consumer Electronics supply chain process in the following areas: • Lower overall inventory requirements through accurate inventory management and reporting • Reduce losses via theft • Improve maintenance through provision of key product data on the item • Maintain links with other working groups such as TLS • Specify common policy on consumer privacy • Specify common tag data requirements • Specify common Human Readable Interface ( HRI ) • Agree common interaction with other Industry Development technologies • Specify tag & memory life cycle and durability parameters • Common definition of terms used Slide 6 2006 EPCGlobal
Consumer Electronics - Work Groups One umbrella Work Group will oversee 5 sub groups. This is to ensure that the focus on total Lifecycle Management is not lost. Slide 7 2006 EPCGlobal
Consumer Electronics – Work Plan Slide 8 2006 EPCGlobal
No Overlap With Existing IAG’s • This is not “business as usual” for EPCglobal • Requirements potentially include • Much larger memory / on tag data set • Multiple rewrites • Long life cycle of tag • Tagging inside item • Lock at data item level • Multiple tags on the same item • Much more complex data models Slide 9 2006 EPCGlobal
Little Overlap With Existing IAG’s • Process Differences • Few high speed lines – multiple slow lines • (Sub) Component assembly not container/fill operation • Much more secure supply chain environment • Substantially higher ration of hazardous material • Logistics chain is longer in distance and time ( no fresh food ) • Many more stages and players in supply chain • Substantial reverse logistics chains for warranty, repair & EOL • Material Differences • Much, much higher ASP • Larger average dimensions • Much longer average User life • Much shorter average product life cycle Slide 10 2006 EPCGlobal
