Pike Place History • On August 17th, 1907 Pike Place was born • Seattle City Councilmen Thomas Revelle proposed a meeting place between farmers and shoppers, due to the high rising cost of onions and other vegetables • 10,000 customers showed up to 1st avenue and Pike street, by 11:00 am farmers were sold out • By the end of the year, the first Pike Place market building opened with every space filled

  3. Pike Place Fun Facts • Over 100 years in operation • 9 acres • 200 year-round commercial businesses • 190 craftspeople • 120 farmers • 240 street performers/ musicians • 300 Apartment units (mostly low-income elderly) • Attracts over 10 million visitors annually
