  5. EHS-Our Vision Every Child a Graduate – Every Graduate Prepared for College/Work/Adulthood in the 21st Century

Prepared Graduate Defined Possesses the ability to apply core academic skills to real- world situations through collaboration with peers in problem solving, precision, and punctuality in delivery of a product, and has a desire to be a life-long learner. Possesses the knowledge and skills needed to enroll and succeed in credit-bearing, first-year courses at a two- or four-year college, trade school, technical school, without the need for remediation.

  7. A high school diploma is no longer a reliable ticket to a decent living. In an era of computers and instant access to information, problem solving, teamwork, and communication skills are essential for personal and national success. ~Instructional Rounds in Education, p. 2

What should you be doing to get ready for college? • Repeat the appropriate college-entrance exam (ACT or SAT) in September and October, IF NECESSARY. • Visit (if you haven’t already) your top 3-5 college choices. • Apply for admissions!Many universities have December 1 deadlines.Scholarships awards are offered only to students who are admitted. (You MUST request a transcript from guidance when you apply.) • Update your resume. This will be helpful in completing applications and should be given to any person writing a recommendation. • Familiarize yourself with the College & Career section of the EHS website. This is where scholarships and scholarship applications will be posted.

  15. What should you be doing to get ready for college? Cont. • Visit the College & Career Center. Get to know Mrs. Fraser and Mrs. Mitchell. They can be a great help to you!! • Get on Mrs. McClenny’s email and/or Remind 101 list. • Listen to announcements or check the calendar outside the C&C Center for college representative visits. • Athletes should talk to coaches about registering for the NCAA Clearinghouse. • CHECK WITH ADMISSIONS OFFICE OF THE SCHOOLS WHERE YOU APPLIED AND CONFIRM THAT YOUR APPLICATIONS ARE COMPLETE! • Request PIN identification numbers from Free Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA) in Nov./Dec. online at: www.pin.ed.gov

College & Career Calendar of Events Sept. 13—ACT Test (late reg. through tomorrow) Sept. 16—Judson College Rep. available in the C&C Center (9:30 am) Oct. 1—UAB Rep. in C&C Center (1:45-3:00) Oct. 2—Montevallo Rep. in C&C Center (11:30-12:45) Oct. 7—2-Year College Fair in the PAC (1:00) Oct. 7—College/Scholarship Info Night in the PAC (6:00)

  17. College & Career Calendar of Events Cont. Oct. 21—College Fair in the Competition Gym (9-2:30) Oct. 23– ASVAB given at EHS Oct. 25—ACT Test (register by Sept. 19) Nov. 3-7 AL College Application Week!

  18. AL College Application Week Campaign Goal: For all seniors to complete an application for admission to a college (2 year or 4 year) by November 7th. If you complete an application prior to Nov. 3-7, bring or email “proof” to the C&C Center to get added to the “I APPLIED” list. If not before, sign up for a time to apply during the week of Nov. 3-7 in the C&C Center. There will be several locations to apply with assistance during this week. At the end of the week, all students on the “I APPLIED” list will be entered into a drawing for a cash scholarship or IPAD.

Stay Focused & Never Give Up! • This is not the finish line, only the beginning! • Your exit will be remembered a lot longer than your entry! • Write 3 goals you want to accomplish your senior year and place the list on your refrigerator. Look at it daily! • Prepare to be challenged! Prepare even harder to meet the challenge!! You can do it!
