  2. 2007 FCAT Writing+ Results Summary • Scores reflect all curriculum groups of students (e.g., Standard, Exceptional, English Language Learners). • 37 schools achieved mean essay scores of 3.5 or higher on FCAT Writing+. • Once again, 100% of Osceola County middle and high schools achieved mean essay scores of 3.5 or higher on FCAT Writing+. • 36 maintained or increased their FCAT Writing+ mean essay scores. • Osceola County elementary and high schools continued to close the gap with the state average and increased their mean essay scores while the state mean essay score did not increase. • After making gains last year, Osceola County middle schools maintained their mean essay scores.

  10. 2007 Grade 03 FCAT-Sunshine State Standards, Reading Results • Scores reflect all curriculum groups of students (e.g., Standard, Exceptional, English Language Learners). • Both district and state results showed • a 6% decrease in the number of students performing at Achievement Level 3 and above in Reading. • a 5% increase in the number of students performing at Achievement Level 1 in Reading. • The Florida Department of Education and all districts statewide are concerned about these results. • Staff will continue to analyze our data and look for those best practices that will improve student achievement and share this information with our schools.

  12. 2007 Grade 03 FCAT-Sunshine State Standards, Mathematics Results • Scores reflect all curriculum groups of students (e.g., Standard, Exceptional, English Language Learners). • Encouraging upward trend in the percentage of students performing at Achievement Level 3 and above • The State showed an increase of 2%, and • Osceola County showed an increase of 1%. • 56% of Osceola County elementary schools increased their percentage of students scoring in Achievement Level 3 or higher on FCAT-SSS Math. • 70% of Osceola County elementary schools improved their FCAT-SSS Math, Mean Scale Scores. • 44% of Osceola County elementary schools exceeded the state’s FCAT-SSS Math, Mean Scale Score gains.

  18. 2006 Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten Provider Readiness Rates Results • Scores reflect all curriculum groups of students (e.g., Standard, Exceptional, English Language Learners). • The rating scale ranges from 0 to 300 and combines scores from three measurements: • Early Childhood Observation System, and • Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills • Letter Naming • Initial Sounds • 85% of all providers statewide had a readiness rate of 200 or more. • 100% of all Osceola County providers had a readiness rate of 200 or more. • The lowest rate was 125 (Family Care Provider). • The highest rate was 300 (Public School Provider). • The State Board of Education will set the proficiency level later this year.

  27. Conclusion • In a teleconference with District Superintendents, Chancellor Yecke shared that pending State School Board approval, the earliest possible date for the release of the 2007 school grades is 06-20-07. • Questions? Concerns?
