SUPPLIES REQUEST Dear 3rd and 4th grade families~ We have run our of pencils and Kleenex in our classrooms. Any donations would be greatly appreciated. The headphone supply is also getting low, so if you can provide your child with his/her own ear buds to use during our computer stations , that would be great! Attendance Get Ready for Quarter 4! The 3rd and 4th grade classes have been great about getting to school every day! Our attendance has been excellent. We would like to see our tardy numbers improve. We are hoping to see all of our students arriving on time for the rest of the year! The fourth quarter will begin after we return from Spring Break! Students will continue to have a packet for Reading each week and a sheet of homework 4 of the 5 nights as week for Math. Please make sure your children are working on Study Island each night for 10-15 minutes on Reading and 10-15 minutes on Math. We want to make sure our students finish strong! π Pi Day! π Last week we celebrated Pi Day on Tuesday, March 14. The 3rd and 4th graders learned that Pi (3.14) is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to the diameter of a circle which occurs in all perfect circles. After our lesson we enjoyed some pizza pies together!

What an awesome start to the 2017-2018 school year! There are so many innovative changes taking place at Santiago; the students are so excited and we hope you are, too. This year, Santiago will have their own website for teachers to share important information. Find us at es.aceroschools.org to read up on classroom news. : ) Ms. Plante and Ms. Ricciardi NACHO PARTY OPEN HOUSE Thank you for a terrific turnout for this year’s Open House. The night began with bragging about our top NWEA scores within the network and ended in classrooms with teachers sharing classroom policies and procedures for this year. Please sign up for Class Dojo, if you haven’t already. It serves as a way to communicate between school and home about your child’s habits and behavior. Thank you so much for your added responsibility in returning TRANSPORTATION forms and signing up for CLASS DOJO. Students who accomplished both attended the nacho party last week. YUM!! YUM!!! BLENDED LEARNING AT ITS BEST! In Science, 3rd and 4th graders each began a unit learning about Living Things. 3rd graders learned about the parts and needs of plants and are now working on a bean experiment to watch them grow. The 4th grade students from Ms. Plante’s room have been learning about animals and gave a Google Slides presentation to Ms. Ricciardi’s students to teach small groups all about the traits, needs, habitats, and adaptations of various animals. What a great activity to excite the 3rd graders as they will move into this area of study in the coming weeks!

Dear Families, 3rd and 4th grade students have been hard at work this month preparing for, and taking, the Reading and Math NWEA tests. Please encourage your child to continue to work on these skills at home by logging on www.studyisland.com at least 3 times a week to practice what we are learning in the classrooms. Ms. Ricciardi and Ms. Plante BOOK IT! from PIZZA HUT MATH NEWS! Set a timer for your child to read at home every night for 20 minutes. These can be books you already have at home, checked out from the public library, or online from the www.RAZKIDS.com website. Every child should complete the reading log AND comprehension page each month to earn PIZZA!!! We are currently working on graphing in all classes for the final weeks before break. After break all groups will focus on fractions. In addition to these topics the Samurai Group is continuing to master long division and the Ninja group is working on multiplication with word problems. All students should practice their facts and work on Study Island over break in addition to their packet work. WINTER PACKETS!! Take time to complete homework packets that have been sent home for Winter Break. These are due back on January 10th when students return back to school. Students will have silent lunches if packets are not returned or incomplete. DO IT!
