  2. Overview • Over 16,000 deaths each year from prescription pain pills. • 2 million people are addicted. • As many as 12 million on chronic opioid therapy for pain • 1 out of 4 teens have misused or abused prescription drugs.

  3. Why is this important to employers? • Many people get started on pain pills following injuries at work.

  4. Why is this important to employers? • These medicines drive up costs. • They increase the likelihood of disability • They delay return to work • $42 billion in lost productivity every year

  5. Why is this important to employers? • Safety. • This is an issue for those taking pain pills non-medically and for those with a legitimate prescription.

  6. Why is this important to employers? • Screening and treatment of employees with addiction saves money.
