What was the underground railroad? • *The underground railroad was a group of African Americans, former slaves, and white abolitionists who arranged a network of transportation and hiding places for fugitives or escaped slaves.
When did the underground railroad take Place? *The Underground railroad took place around 1810 and ended almost 40 years later in the 1850’s
*The Underground Railroad was not actually a railroad underground it was a system of trails above ground. • It was called the Underground railroad because underground is like saying its hidden or a secret. • *Another reason it is referred to as the underground railroad was because the people who led the Underground Railroad used railroad terms such as conductor, Cargo(slaves), and Stations(Safe houses).
Who was Harriet Tubman? • Harriet Tubman was a very famous conductor on the underground railroad because she was once a slave herself and she helped over 300 slaves escape.
