What Are Solenoids and its various Uses When we talk about solenoids or solenoid valves, we normally think about a wire that is used in refrigerator, HVAC system, and the coffee machine etc. But do you all know the literal meaning of solenoid? By definition a solenoid is basically an A solenoid valve is an electromechanically operated valve. The valve is controlled by an electric current through a solenoid: in the case of a two-port valve the flow is switched on or off; in the case of a three-port valve, the outflow is switched between the two outlet ports. Multiple solenoid valves can be placed together on a manifold – according to Wikipedia.

  2. This coil of wire when put through electricity, it creates electromagnetic power and that is what helps the system to work properly. There are number of solenoids available for various uses. One of the best examples is Evaporative Air Conditioning Solenoids that are used in various systems that are of great help in our daily lives and in our irrigation system. There are plenty of uses of these solenoids. They are basically used to control elements in fluidics. The main task of these solenoid valves is to shut off, release, dose, distribute or mix fluids. They are found in many application areas. Solenoids offer fast and safe switching, high reliability, long service life, good medium compatibility of the materials used, low control power and compact design.

These locking mechanisms are like indoor locks for the hotels, offices, high security areas. While the locking mechanism remains locked, the solenoid does not consume power. However, it consumes a bit of electrical energy when it unlocks. Hence, some locks are usually designed with battery slots.

  4. Irrigation and industrial use – The solenoid valves are mostly used in irrigation and other industrial uses. These are actually vital components of various industrial machines. You can see these solenoid valves when there is a requirement of locking, positioning, pinching, holding, rotating, diverting, valve operation, and more. When it comes to the irrigation part, the solenoids are actually used to actuate the valves; hence it can be used in irrigation for variety of applications where the air and water flow is involved. There are a lot and various use of solenoid valves. It can be used in various ways and especially when it is a matter of irrigation, you need to use the solenoid valves.
