  2. Internal School profile School Location Phaung Daw Oo is situated in a suburban area of North East Mandalay, Myanmar. School Background. The School was founded in 1993 by Ven. U Nayaka and Ven. U Jotika (Buddhism Monks) It is a non-government and self-reliance school, mainly funded by charities and some small income generation.

  4. Internal Objectives of the school To provide the free education for all children of rural or urban families, orphans and for those who could not attend the government schools for various reasons.

  8. Faculty Profile The only requirement to register at school as a teacher is to finish high school. Teacher trainings and the other required trainings for capacity building were be given to them at the appropriate time. Teachers were less paid compared to public school- teachers. 10% of teachers leave every years. New teachers can be replaced at the same time. Internal Leadership training. Teacher training.

  10. Services Profile Internal Library Approximately 10,000books Half of them are English books which were donated by a donor. Few teaching materials is provided in the library. About 30% of primary school students read in the library everyday.

  13. Internal Bernett, Horticulture, hostel for street children, nutrition project, Nargis victim children Bernett gives the significant information about HIV/AIDS. The hostel offers the place, food, and clothes that give chances to get education for street children. Small projects

  14. Internal Small projects School Street Children Hostel We are looking after 70 orphan children who are reached on the street, that provide accommodation, food, clothes, education, health and other-things what they need. It was founded in 2000. and now we expend 2100 U$ per month.

  15. Internal Small projects PDO Nargis Children PDO school take care of the victim children who are from delta area. Here, 60 children are needed for daily meals. We provide Accommodation, Food, Clothes, School Uniform, Health Care, Education, Stationary, Physical & Mental exercise to improve their life skill.

  16. External Political ( Military Junta) After the monk-revolutions in 2007, the military junta become very suspicious to the monastery schools and things become very difficult to go on. The regime-controlled education system has resulted in sub-standard education, critical lack of teaching facilities, unskilled teachers, and lack of job opportunities after graduation, corruption and bribery. Till now the military junta has not been able to solve the basic problems of students. They are constantly using closure of universities as a weapon to stop students’ demonstrations for their rights.  To immediately reopen all the schools and universities in the country unconditionally and at the same time maintain a free and unbiased educational program all over Burma still remains a dream for the people.

  18. External Economic The vastly deteriorating economic situation also forces students to leave schools even when they are functioning. Given the high drop-out rate of children in primary school, fewer students continue their education at middle and high school levels. 30% of people in Mandalay are farmers. Most of the graduated people are working in company, however they don’t earn enough to support the family. 40% of people are the staffs in the government offices .
