405 First Grade NewsFirst Edition Sept. 7. 2007 Lots of smiles! The children came in with smiles as we began a new year of school. We are learning all the classroom routines and adjusting nicely to school. Thank you for responding to the note about the Classroom Rules. We have a wonderful first grade class. All About Me! We have done many activities to get to know each other. One of favorites is the “All About Me T-shirts.” Another fun project was the pennant we made about our special interests and favorite things we like to do. All of these projects are hanging in our room but will come home soon! Reading On Monday, we read “My Friends” and wrote about things we learned from different animal friends. We made a classroom book about what we want to be when we grow up and an ABC book about Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. We also read “Rosie’s Walk” and went for a walk around the school. We visited the playground and came back to the classroom to write a story about our walk. “The Hungry Caterpillar,” and “Friends” and did some fun activities to go along with these stories. I hope you enjoy our classroom stories! Math/Social Studies In Math, we will continue to practice the numbers 1 – 10. We finished the review packet on counting and ordering numbers. We will continue to practice writing numbers, counting, listening, and following directions. Math time is lots of fun. Our theme this month is Friendship in Social Studies. We met our fourth grade reading buddies and read stories together. This week we made a colorful kite together. We made friendship puppets and shared them with our first grade friends. We also shared our brown bag items. Classroom News! We celebrated Mrs. Gibson’s birthday! Wow, we have already lost 10 teeth in Aug! It has been an exciting first few weeks of school. The children have been wonderful. You should be very proud of them! Any questions for me just call or send an e-mail.
