HMEP Grants Program Accomplishments • Since the beginning of the program (1993), $99M has been awarded in HMEP grants resulting in 1,545,000 responders being trained • To date, the IAFF has trained ~1,300 fire service instructors using HMEP grant funds. • The April 2003 HMEP Curriculum guidelines have been distributed to grantees, LEPCs/SERCs, and local fire departments. • Assistance is being provided to grantees in using the guidelines to qualify their courses.
HMEP Grants Program Accomplishments (Cont’d) • The HMEP grant program’s role in providing hazmat planning and training support was commended by local responders during the Tamaroa, IL incident on February 9, 2003 and the I-95 tanker accident, which took five lives on January 13, 2004.
